Trooper Eric Workman and Corporal Marshall Bailey were shot and killed after they stopped a vehicle for reckless driving at the commuter parking lot adjacent to I-79, in Clay County, at approximately 8:30 pm.
The troopers determined the subject was intoxicated and placed him under arrest and hancuffed in front of his body. The subject was searched and placed in the back of the patrol car when he was able to reach a concealed 9mm pistol that was not discovered in the search. He shot both troopers inside of the vehicle and took Corporal Bailey’s service weapon.
After climbing out of the vehicle he shot a tow truck driver who had been called to the scene to impound his car. The tow truck driver was able to get away from the scene and call for help.
The subject then fled on foot and set up an ambush in a ditch. He later opened fire on officers from multiple agencies who responded to the scene, wounding a Roane County deputy in the arm, hand, and stomach. The responding officers returned fire, killing the subject.

Richland County Sheriff’s deputies arrest four men in security officer murder www.privateofficer.com
RICHLAND COUNTY, SC Sept 1 2012 – Richland County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested four men in connection with the shooting death of a nightclub security guard last weekend.
Deputies announced Friday they arrested and charged 24 year old Gerald Haltiwanger for the murder of 42-year-old Jimmy Moti.
25-year-old Tyrobia Green, 26-year-old Terrell Vaughn and 21-year-old Jonathan Sterling were charged with accessory after the fact of murder.
Deputies say just before midnight Saturday, all four attempted to enter the El Toro Bar and Grill on St. Andrews Road. Moti, who worked there as a security guard questioned the validity of one of their ID’s and refused to let them in.
Deputies say the men attacked Moti, then shot him several times as they drove away. Moti later died at the hospital.
All four are held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center

Sedgwick County jail deputy accused of sexually assaulting inmates www.privateofficer.com
Sedwick County KS Sept 1 2012 A Sedgwick County jail deputy accused of sexually assaulting inmates has been released on bond.
Jail records indicate David Kendall left the Sedgwick County Detention Center Friday afternoon.
Kendall faces 12 counts of various charges, including aggravated criminal sodomy, sexual battery and criminal solicitation. Prosecutors said he sexually assaulted at least six inmates from April 1 to the middle of June.
During a bond hearing in district court Thursday, a Sedgwick County judge agreed to a defense motion requesting a modified bond.
Kendall is ordered to wear a GPS tracking device. He will return to court Sept. 6 for a preliminary hearing.
Thursday, August 30, 2012
A jail deputy charged with sexually assaulting inmates has posted bond after a Sedgwick County judge granted a bond modifications.
David Kendall is charged with 11 counts of criminal sex acts including aggravated criminal sodomy, sexual battery and criminal solicitation. According to court documents, the criminal acts involved six victims dating back to April 1.
He has been behind bars on $500,000 bond. But in court Thursday, Charlie O’Hara, defense attorney, asked that Kendall be allowed to post $350,000 surety and $150,000 personal bond. The state accepted the defense motion, acknowledging problems for defense attorneys to meet with Kendall because of his incarceration.
A judge granted the defense motion. Kendall is expected to be released directly to pretrial services Friday. He is ordered to wear a GPS tracking device until his preliminary hearing begins.
A preliminary hearing date has not yet been set.
Kendall has posted bond once before. He was released on $100,000 bond in July, but was rearrested a few days later after prosecutors filed more charges against him.

Man falls 35 feet from Ga. Dome upper level www.privateofficer.com
ATLANTA GA Sept 1 2012 (AP) — A 20-year-old man has been taken to an Atlanta hospital after falling approximately 35 feet from the upper level of the Georgia Dome at Friday night’s Tennessee-North Carolina State game.
The Georgia World Congress Center Authority said in a statement Friday night that the man fell on another fan seated in the mezzanine area at about 8:30 p.m.
The fan who was hit while seated also was taken to the Atlanta hospital.
Authority spokeswoman Jennifer LeMaster said late Friday that she did not know the conditions of the injured fans, who she said were transported almost immediately to the hospital.
The incident comes a day after a similar one in Texas in which a 25-year-old fan died after tumbling about 60 feet from a fifth-floor escalator at Reliant Stadium during a preseason Houston Texans game.
Jonathon Kelly of Houston fell to the ground floor during the Thursday night game against the Minnesota Vikings, and frantic witnesses called police to report where his body had landed, police spokesman John Cannon said.
Police said that fall appeared to be an accident.
In 2011, a firefighter attending a Texas Rangers game in Arlington died when he fell from the left field stands while reaching for a baseball tossed his way by All-Star outfielder Josh Hamilton. The man’s 9-year-old son witnessed the fall. A statue was later dedicated at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to the man and his son, and railings were raised throughout the ballpark before this season.
Man stole doctor’s ID, saw 500 patients in past year www.privateofficer.com
COLUMBIA, S.C. Sept 1 2012— A man stole a physician’s identity and pretended to be a doctor for a year in South Carolina, and now investigators are combing through medical records to see whether he harmed any of the hundreds of patients he treated, authorities said.
Ernest Addo of Austell, Ga., is charged with unlawful practice of medicine and obtaining goods under false pretense, authorities said.
Addo doesn’t have a medical licence in the U.S. But he assumed a doctor friend’s identity, getting a driver’s licence and presenting the massive amount of paperwork needed to prove he was a doctor. The documents were given to him by the friend in hopes they could open a medical clinic together when the real doctor returned from a yearlong trip to Ghana, Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said.
The real doctor, Arthur Kennedy, said he is embarrassed and devastated by what his friend did.
Addo did have some medical training, and acted enough like a doctor not to raise any serious suspicion beyond one nurse — interviewed after Addo’s Aug. 24, arrest — who wondered why he consulted ask.com when she questioned his treatment plan, Metts said.
The motive appears to be greed, the sheriff said. Court documents show Addo has a history of financial trouble.
Records obtained by The Associated Press show in the past 20 years, at least two dozen liens have been filed against Addo for around $200,000, including unpaid rent, credit card bills, student loans and taxes. Addo has declared bankruptcy twice.
After Addo’s arrest last week at his Georgia home, officers found fake IDs and other documents, and Metts said it appears Addo might have tried to fake his way through other lucrative careers, too. The sheriff wouldn’t specify which ones.
“He seems to be a professional con guy,” Metts said.
Authorities have said Addo received more than $10,000 for his services but declined to elaborate. One of the jobs also gave him the use of a Mercedes.
Addo, 48, has been jailed in Cobb County, Ga., since his arrest, and neither the sheriff nor jail officials knew if he had an attorney. Addo is refusing to talk to authorities, and both his home phone and cellphone have been disconnected.
Addo faces more than a decade in prison for his current charges, but he could end up in even more trouble. Metts said his investigators are reviewing the medical records of more than 500 patients Addo saw while at four Columbia-area senior centers and a rehabilitation center owned by Agape Senior Primary Care.
Metts said some of those patients died. He said more charges could follow if any of those deaths were linked to Addo’s actions.
Addo was hired as a general practitioner and provided the kind of exams patients would receive during a visit to the family doctor. Authorities said he also wrote prescriptions, including some for himself.
Officials at Agape are doing their own review of the care patients received from Addo. They said he never had sole clinical oversight of any patient.
“We have found no inappropriate diagnosis or plan of treatment. We are convinced that all of our patients are safe and receiving proper care,” Agape CEO Scott Middleton said in a statement.
Addo also worked as a contract doctor for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, filling in for a doctor on medical leave. Officials there said they also are reviewing Addo’s care and have not found any serious issues.
Patients treated by Addo could not be located by The Associated Press for comment.
Authorities started investigating Addo after he made a small mistake on a death certificate. South Carolina health officials trying to fix the error contacted the doctor Addo was impersonating. He told them he hadn’t practiced medicine for a year in the state because he was teaching at a medical school in Ghana.
Officials have refused to release that doctor’s name, but Kennedy confirmed his identity was stolen.
Kennedy said he was betrayed by his friend. Addo also obtained credit cards in Kennedy’s name, creating an even bigger mess to clean up, the doctor said Wednesday outside his home in Orangeburg.
He said he didn’t want to answer detailed questions about what happened until he spoke to a lawyer.
Both Kennedy and Addo are from Ghana. Kennedy ran unsuccessfully for president of the west African nation in 2008. He had a family practice in Orangeburg and spent plenty of time in his homeland, pushing for public health improvements. The two men resemble each other, and Addo used Kennedy’s reputation to help get him the doctor jobs. Agape said in a statement it hired him in part because he came highly recommended.
Both Agape and Jackson & Coker, the Alpharetta, Ga., physician recruitment firm that placed Addo with the Department of Mental Health, have promised to help authorities. Metts said it could take months for investigators to go through all the medical records.
Jackson & Coker also is exploring any legal action it could take against Addo and is shocked he was able to obtain all the documents someone would need to prove he was a doctor in the United States, spokeswoman Susan Meyers said.
“He was hired the same way in several different places,” Meyers said. “There were no red flags.”
Alert security officer leads to marijuana -grow bust www.privateofficer.com
Hilliard OH Sept 1 2012 A security guard patrolling outside the One Mill Run office complex, 3455 Mill Run Drive, discovered more than he expected early Thursday morning, Aug. 23.
The privately employed security guard noticed a suspicious car parked on the building’s perimeter shortly before 2 a.m. and called 911.
Several hours later, Hilliard police had William E. Foldner II, 50, of Groff Place, in custody and had uncovered a marijuana-growing operation in a wooded area along the east side of Interstate 270, just south of Cemetery Road.
Foldner was charged Aug. 23 with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of cultivating marijuana, both fourth-degree misdemeanors.
He is scheduled for an initial appearance Sept. 12 in Hilliard Mayor’s Court. The case could be heard or transferred to Franklin County Municipal Court.
In the call to Hilliard police, the security guard described a suspicious car parked at the back of the parking lot and reported part of a fence removed.
“It’s a gray Cutlass, beat up,” the security guard said. “And I hear something in the trees but I’m not going back there by myself.”
Hilliard police responded to the scene and heard voices and sounds from the wooded area but did not make an immediate apprehension.
Officers were still waiting when a man, later identified as Foldner, returned to the car at about 5 a.m.
The marijuana plants were in three locations in the wooded area. They found 74 plants at the site.
“(Police) had to crawl on their stomachs to get back there,” Officer Hyda Slone said.
Officers also found digging tools and fertilizer in the vehicle, she said.
Slone said officers do not believe the amount of dried leaves will exceed 200 grams.
Possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor unless the weight of the dried leaves, less stems and roots exceeds 200 grams.
Officers did not search Foldner’s residence, nor are they pursing additional suspects, police said.

Hip-Hop mogul Chris Lighty dead of suicide www.privateofficer.com
NEW YORK NY Sept 1 2012 (AP) — Chris Lighty, a hip-hop mogul who helped the likes of Sean “Diddy” Combs, 50 Cent and Mariah Carey attain not only hit records, but also lucrative careers outside music, was found dead in his New York City apartment Thursday in an apparent suicide. He was 44.
He was found at his home in the Bronx with a gunshot to the head and was pronounced dead there, police said. No note was recovered, but a 9 mm handgun was found and there was no sign of forced entry, said Paul Browne, New York police spokesman. The shooting appears to be self-inflicted, authorities said.
Lighty had been a part of the scene for decades, working with pioneers like LL Cool J before starting his own management company, Violator. But he was in the midst of a divorce and had been having recent financial and personal troubles.
Twitter was abuzz with condolences just hours after the body was found around 11:30 a.m.
“R.I.P. Chris Lighty,” Fat Joe posted on his account. “The man that saved my life!” Diddy wrote: “In shock.” Rihanna posted: “Rest peacefully Chris Lighty, my prayers go out to family and loved ones! Dear God please have mercy.” And Mary J. Blige wrote: “U never know what can send a person over the edge or make them want 2 keep living. take it easy on people.”
50 Cent said in a statement issued through his publicist that he was deeply saddened by the loss.
“Chris has been an important part of my business and personal growth for a decade,” he said. “He was a good friend and advisor who helped me develop as an artist and businessman. My prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed.”
Lighty was raised by his mother in the Bronx as one of six children. He ran with a group called The Violators, the inspiration for the name of his management company, according to the company website. He was a player in the hip-hop game since he was a kid DJ. He rose through the ranks at Rush Management — mogul Russell Simmons’ first company — before eventually founding Violator Management in the late 1990s.
“Today, we lost a hip-hop hero and one of its greatest architects,” Simmons tweeted.
Lighty’s roster ranged from Academy Award-winners Three 6 Mafia to maverick Missy Elliott to up-and-comer Papoose and perpetual star Carey. He made it his mission not so much to make musical superstars, but rather multifaceted entertainers who could be marketed in an array of ways: a sneaker deal here, a soft drink partnership there, a movie role down the road.
In a 2007 interview with The Associated Press, Lighty talked about creating opportunities for his stars — a Chapstick deal for LL Cool J, known for licking his lips, and a vitamin supplement deal for 50 Cent.
“As music sales go down because kids are stealing it off the Internet and trading it and iPod sales continue to rise, you can’t rely on just the income that you would make off of being an artist,” he said at the time.
Survivors include his two children. He and his wife, Veronica, had been in the process of divorcing. The case was still listed as active, but electronic records show an agreement to end it was filed in June.
He was also having financial trouble. City National Bank sued Lighty, whose given name is Darrell, in April, saying he had overdrawn his account by $53,584 and then refused to pay the balance. The case was still pending.
He also owed more than $330,000 in state and federal taxes, according to legal filings. His tax problems were much steeper a year ago, but he cleared away millions of dollars in earlier IRS liens last October, after selling his Manhattan apartment for $5.6 million.
Larry Mestel, the CEO of Primary Wave Music, the entertainment company that created the joint venture Primary Violator management last fall with Violator Management, said: “We are extremely shocked and sadden by this tragic news. Chris was a friend, business partner and most of all, an icon, role model and true legend of the music and entertainment industry. He will be missed by many and we send love and support to his family.”
Florida National Guardsman at RNC accidentially shoots another guardsman www.pirvateofficer.com
Tampa Fla Sept 1 2012 A member of the Florida National Guard providing security for the Republican National Convention shot another guardsman Thursday night in an apparent accident at a St. Petersburg hotel room, deputies said.
No charges were filled against Jeffrey A. Spurr, 26, of Bronson, for shooting the gun’s owner Michael Wdowiak, 21, of Weirsdale, in the upper body and left hand, said Marianne Pasha, spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
The guardsmen were at the La Quinta hotel, 4999 34th St. N., at 10:22 p.m. with at least three other people, Pasha said.
Spurr was looking at the grip on Wdowiak’s personal .357 revolver when it fired, hitting Wdowiak, Pasha said. No one else was hurt.
Wdowiak underwent surgery for his injury, Pasha said. His condition was not available.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the shooting, Pasha said.
The men are members of the National Guard contingent in Ocala. They were in the Bay area helping with security for the convention in Tampa.

Houston teacher charged with distribution of child pornography www.privateofficer.com
The investigation of Villarreal dates back to July 2010 when a Beaumont undercover officer identified a computer that was making child pornography available over the Internet.
The undercover officer successfully downloaded videos, including one that showed a girl, 8 to 10 years old, having sex with an adult male. Others showed boys and girls 11 to 15 years of age having sex with each other and masturbating.
The computer was traced to Villarreal at a residence in Houston and the case was referred to Houston authorities for further investigation.
Agents learned earlier this week that Villarreal was employed by HISD as a third-grade teacher at Anderson Elementary School.
They searched his home Friday and found several images and videos of child pornography on a thumb drive inserted in a computer located within the residence, according to the U.S. Attorney.
Homeland Security Investigations agents arrested Villarreal and he made his initial court appearance Friday afternoon.
If convicted, Villarreal faces a minimum of five and up to 20 years in prison along with a fine up to $250,000. He also faces a possible life term of post-prison supervised release.
HISD issued a statement Friday saying Villarreal has been removed from his duties.

Extortion- prostitution investigated at Nashville fire station 24 www.privateofficer.com
Nashville TN Sept 1 2012 It started with an allegation that a woman was drugged on Saturday, but by Thursday, it had ballooned into an investigation into extortion, stripping and prostitution at Fire Station 24 in North Nashville.
The allegations have led to the suspension of Station 24’s entire A Shift and the arrest of a suspected gang member and his associate and leaves the Nashville Fire Department scrambling to respond to scandalous accusations for the fourth time in at least five years.
Metro Police continue to investigate whether a woman was drugged at one firefighter’s home, and the fire department is investigating whether three employees had someone strip and perform paid sex acts at Station 24.
“It is something we take very seriously and we will continue the investigation and try to get to the bottom of it,” said Deputy Fire Chief Kim Lawson.
No criminal charges have been filed against any firefighters.
The case began when a 23-year-old woman told Metro Police that she suspected she was drugged when she went to a firefighter’s Antioch home. Police said that while she was being interviewed Saturday, she also told them that she was present at Station 24 when a woman stripped and one or more women performed sex acts for money there.
During police interviews, firefighter Jason Copeland told investigators he was being extorted for money because of his relationship with the woman and the stripping and prostitution allegations.
“If he didn’t (pay), there would be blood,” said Don Aaron, spokesman for Metro Police. “His employment was also threatened by disclosure of his relationship with this 23-year-old and, I guess, other goings on.”
Aaron said detectives pretended to pay the extortion by putting $500 in a car at a Clarksville Pike Pizza Hut. They said Ray Dontrell Johnson, 26, came and retrieved the cash. Johnson, whom Aaron said is suspected of being a member of the Gangster Disciples, was arrested on an extortion charge, along with the man they say drove him there, Cortez Smith, 20.
Police are still investigating the drugging charges. They said the woman has given inconsistent versions of what happened.
“There are inconsistencies in what she said Saturday and what she said yesterday,” Aaron said. “Regardless, this investigation has exposed major issues.”
The woman told investigators that she was at the fire station in the presence of at least one woman who stripped and another who performed sex acts for money. The fire department says Copeland and two other employees, engineer Kerry Sales and firefighter Quincy Corbitt, were accused of being present.
Those three were suspended with pay, along with firefighter Darrin Bell, who wasn’t at the station when the incident occurred, and Capt. James Overton, who was asleep. Lawson said Bell and Overton were suspended because they may have information about what happened.
Police said no charges are expected in the prostitution allegation.
“If the alleged prostitution proves true, what you have is a misdemeanor that took place outside a police officer’s presence … making prosecution difficult,” Aaron said.
The case isn’t the first allegation of inappropriate conduct at a fire station in Nashville. In 2009, a firefighter resigned after being caught with a prostitute at a fire station.
A year before that, some firefighters were accused of giving a group of women a late-night joyride on a fire truck, giving them beer back at the fire station and showing porn on a television. Their discipline was eventually overturned.
And, in 2010, a fire captain was suspended and temporarily demoted after he was caught streaming videos of himself in uniform on a website that featured mostly nude videos.
Lawson acknowledged that the department has had some high-profile incidents in recent years, but she said they were isolated.
“We don’t typically see it a lot. Obviously, we have had a few instances in the past few years,” she said. “When we learn that they happen, we certainly take them seriously.”

Jefferson County constable charged with rape www.privateofficer.com
A constable was arrested Thursday on rape charges.
The victim, who is now 28 years old, was a juvenile at the time of the rape and recently came forward.
Jefferson County investigators talked to the victim who says Thomas Eagle raped him when he was just a boy. Eagle tried to lunge at our photographers while walking to the detention facility.
Eagle did not confess to the rape. The victim decided to come forward after Eagle reached out to him on Facebook. Investigators say there could be other alleged victims who have not come forward yet.
“Often times when you’re alleging and got a victim later on you find out when there’s an arrest made in the particular case you know a year, two months, three months, you may find other victims. We’re hoping if that’s the case the other victims do come forward,” said Major Lafeyette Wood, Jefferson County Sheriffs Office.
Eagle was being held in custody Thursday evening. His bond hearing was set for Friday.

Maine State Police charge ten-year-old girl with manslaughter of baby www.privateofficer.com
The girl, whose name can not be released by police, is charged with the death of Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway.
She died July 8th after being babysat at a home in Fairfield.
Police say a babysitter called police to report that the infant was not breathing, but police declined to say Thursday if the 10-year-old was the sitter.
State Police detectives have investigated the death since that time and the decision on charging the girl was made after consulting with the Attorney General’s Office.
The death was declared a homicide Wednesday, but additional details are being withheld as the State Medical Examiner’s Office continues to work on the case.
The baby’s mother, Nicole Greenaway of Clinton, says authorities told her the baby had ingested medication used for attention-deficit disorder and been suffocated. She also says she saw bruises on her daughter’s body.
The ten-year-old is now in the custody of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the girl is the youngest person in Maine to be charged with manslaughter in at least 25 years.
McCausland says the child’s attorney, John Martin of Skowhegan, was served Thursday afternoon with a court summons for Skowhegan District Court on October 22 for the girl’s first court appearance.

Off-duty security officer shot to death in neighborhood dispute www.privateofficer.com
NEWARK NJ Sept 1 2012 — On the afternoon of Aug. 20, Russell Lighten Jr. got into an argument with a woman on the street, just across from his home in Newark’s West Ward. She tried to hit him, and the 24-year-old security guard shoved her back, his father said. Another man approached, claiming to be the woman’s cousin. The two men argued briefly before going their separate ways.
Hours later, Lighten was shot twice in the chest in front of his South 17th Street home, and died the same night.
This morning, the Newark Police Department’s fugitive apprehension unit charged 24-year-old Anthony Burrows with the killing, apprehending him without incident in a home near the East Orange border. Burrows has a long criminal record dating to 2007, with several convictions, including one for gun possession. In July, he was released from jail after serving a four-month sentence.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Burrows and Lighten were involved in a dispute earlier that day, spokeswoman Katherine Carter said without providing further details.
Lighten’s father said he warned the young man about hanging around with “the wrong type of people. My son wasn’t perfect, no one is perfect, but he tried,” said Lighten, 51, and a transit worker. “I was concerned for him, but every parent is concerned for their child.” He didn’t recognize Burrows from around the neighborhood, which in the 20 years that Lighten and his family has lived there, has seen an increasing number of boarded up houses and weed-strewn yards, he said.
During the afternoon argument, the elder Lighten claimed, Burrows warned his son he would “shoot up your whole family” before storming off.
Burrows’ criminal record includes seven arrests in five years, among them for burglary, robbery, gun possession and drug possession. In April 2010, he was charged with assault for allegedly threatening to kill someone, court documents show. The grand jury declined to indict in that case.
Lighten Sr. said he witnessed the altercation between his son and Burrows from his porch, and heard the gunshots later that night. He rushed from his home to where his son was on the ground, bleeding. “It’s terrible watching your son die,” he said today, near a makeshift cardboard memorial with photos of his son next to scrawled words of condolence.
Lighten, who had a young daughter, graduated from high school and spent a year at Grambling State University in Louisiana, said his mother, Pamela Lighten. He returned to Newark, where he was a licensed security guard “He was a good son,” she said. He was buried Saturday.

Alabama mans threat against police chief lands him in jail www.privateofficer.com
WEST BLOCTON, AL Sept 1 2012 - An alleged threat against a west Alabama police chief lands a man in jail this week.
Bibb County District Attorney Michael Jackson says the suspect, Johnny Reynolds, tried to hire someone to kill West Blocton Police Chief Keith Whatley, then burn his house down.
Reynolds lives on Boxwood Lane and his neighbors are understandably shocked.
“Just the thought someone who might live close would think to do something like that…scary,” said Shelenia Beverly.
Josephy Farley also lives nearby and couldn’t believe the news. He says he knows Reynolds.
He’s a good guy. I couldn’t see him doing something like that,” Farley said.
So how did the situation come to this? Bibb County Cheriff Keith Hannah tells FOX6 News Reynolds was angry at Whatley for sending officers to his property. The officers were responding to complaints about Reynolds burning items in his yard.
The city has also filed his harrassment complaint against Reynolds this month. About a week ago, Hannah says investigators learned about Reynolds’ plan to murder Whatley and stop it.
“He actually made his intentions know how he wanted the chief disposed of,” DA Jackson said.
Reynolds faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit arson. He remains in the Bibb County Jail on a $75,000 bond. Jackson says that if he is convicted, Reynolds could face life imprisonment.
