Former Ga. police chief gets prison time for assaulting prisoner www.privateofficer.com

MACON, Ga.Oct 23 2012  (AP) — A former Georgia police chief has been sentenced to two years in prison for slapping and punching an inmate at a county jail.
The U.S. Justice Department said Monday that Walter Young, formerly the police chief of Omega, Ga., was sentenced after being convicted of violating the inmate’s civil rights.
The department says the 54-year-old former police chief hit the inmate eight times, breaking the man’s nose. The incident was caught on tape by the jail’s video surveillance system.
Authorities said the inmate, who had been detained on shoplifting charges, had been fully restrained in a chair.
Young was convicted by a federal jury in August.
