Ballou Campus Security Officer Recognized for Heroic Act www.privateofficer.com

Puyallup, WA Nov 29 2012

Last month, the Puyallup School Board honored Ballou Junior High campus security officer Margie Englund, who stepped up to save Haley Nunez, a student who choked on a piece of food during lunchtime.

The school board and community gave Englund a standing ovation for her bravery. Three ninth graders were also acknowledged for their role in helping Nunez. Mareena O’Neil, Kelby Smith, and Emily Schwarz were sitting with Nunez at lunch and noticed that she was turning purple and not breathing, and screamed for Englund to help.
Ballou Junior High principal Krista Bates presented Englund with a bouquet of flowers and a plaque “in recognition of excellence, dedication, and commitment to students for your emergency response in performing the Heimlich maneuver to save a life.”
Bates continued, “She was not only heroic on that day, but every day that she does her job,” Bates said. “She makes sure that our campus and our students are safe.”
