Prince George County MD Dec 1 2012 Police responded to a shooting involving an armed security officer at a Laurel area grocery store.
The shooting occurred just inside the door of the Bottom Dollar Food store in the 12600 block ofLaurel-Bowie Road about 7:55 p.m., said Cpl. Larry Johnson, a police spokesman. The security officer was shot several times and was taken to a hospital in serious, but stable condition, Johnson said.
The two men, who were described only as wearing masks, also took the security officer’s firearm.
It was not immediately clear whether the guard was shot during an attempted robbery, police said.
It also wasn’t known whether the security officer’s gun was used against him or if another weapon was fired, Johnson said.
The men fled in a light blue SUV. Detectives were looking at surveillance video and interviewed about a half dozen witnesses who were in the store at the time of the shooting, officials said.
