Jersey City NJ Jan 26 2013 A North Bergen man made his first appearance in court Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer during a theft and spitting in an officer’s face while resisting arrest.
Niseldo Vega, 35, appeared in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City via a video link with the Hudson County jail in Kearny on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, robbery, possession of an anti-shoplifting control device and throwing bodily fluid at a law enforcement officer.
According to the complaint, Vega was caught in possession of stolen perfumes from the North Bergen Walmart as well as a “custom-made bag that is used to place merchandise in to avoid setting off alarms.”
Vega then allegedly pushed a security guard and attempted to flee the scene.
The complaint states Vega resisted arrest by keeping his hands underneath his body while on the ground and began kicking officers trying to arrest him. He is also charged with elbowing an officer in the chest and spitting at his face.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash or bond and the case was sent on to the grand jury.
