Wanted man arrested at airport with gun www.privateofficer.com

ALBUQUERQUE NM April 14 2009 (KRQE) – A man wanted on drunken driving warrants was detained Monday morning after he allegedly had a gun in his carry-on baggage as he went through security at the Albuquerque International Sunport.
Kody Vaughn, 26, was placed in handcuffs around 8 a.m. at the security checkpoint. Police said he was heading for Phoenix.
Airport security officials said they found a weapon in a piece of Vaughn’s carry-on luggage. He was taken in for questioning.
Airport spokesperson Dan Jiron said passengers try to board an airplane with a gun every few months.
In each case, Jiron said, the person legally owned the gun but forgot it was in luggage.
Jiron said Vaughn had told police he didn’t know he had the gun in his bag.
It’s not yet clear if Vaughn had a permit for the gun.
He could face a $10,000 fine from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and criminal, civil and administrative charges.
According to state records, Vaughn has outstanding warrants concerning a drunken driving arrest.

http://www.privateofficer.com/- Police said that a shoplifting suspect got violent with a loss prevention agent when she tried to leave the store with merchandise that had not been paid for and she was confronted by security.
According to police, the shoplifter tried to attack the JC Penny loss prevention officer with a knife, after he allegedly tried to steal from the Cottonwood Mall store back in September and he was able to flee at that time.
Now police have arrested Adrian Herrera, 41, who appeared before a judge on Saturday.
Police said that Herrera was arrested Friday evening on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Herrera’s teenage daughter was with him during the alleged incident.
Herrera is being held on a bond release at this time.

On-duty firefighter stops and buys liquor at Walgreens www.privateofficer.com

On-duty firefighter stops and buys liquor at Walgreens http://www.privateofficer.com

Albuquerque NM OCT 27 2008
A Walgreens security guard said he couldn’t believe his eyes when a uniformed firefighter pulled up in a firetruck and proceeded to buy booze.
Video taken from store security cameras shows the firefighter walking out with two bottles of Seagram’s Gin and Everclear Vodka. Security guard David Sandoval said he and others in the store noticed the firefighter was still on duty when making the purchase.
Sandoval said the firefighter didn’t seem to care he was breaking the rules.
“He seemed not to even mind what he was doing, because apparently he just did it, knowing that he was being videotaped,” Sandoval said.
The guard said other customers in line were starting to get upset because a public servant shouldn’t buy alcohol while on duty and in uniform.
The firefighter told his superiors he was buying the alcohol for the next day.
AFD Chief Robert Ortega said the October 4 incident led to a 30-day suspension for the firefighter, who is an 11-year veteran.
Chief Ortega said the same firefighter was in trouble a few years ago for padding his time sheet. He was fired, but the city’s personnel board gave him his job back.
“I was kind of disappointed to see that, but it’s my understanding that he was trying to buy it for the following day, but there’s a proper time for everything,” Sandoval said.
The firefighter signed an agreement stating that if he breaks the rules again, he’ll be fired. He returns to work on Nov. 9.

Shoplifter finds security officer’s home, shoots car www.privateofficer.com

Shoplifter finds security officer’s home, shoots at car http://www.privateofficer.com

http://www.privateofficer.com/ A shoplifting suspect made good on his threat to a store security officer by finding the officer’s home and firing a bullet at it, according to Albuquerque police.
The damage came from a bullet that passed through the windshield, out the passenger side window, through the fence and almost into the home of the security agent.

Police alleged the shooting was the work of Ernesto Pavia, 26.
“I have no clue who this guy is,” “I just came to my car, and the window was busted out,” Leroy Saiz, the guard’s father, told reporters.

However his son said he does know who the guy is and why he was there.
On Tuesday night during the 90-minute blackout that hit much of Albuquerque, Joshua Saiz was working as a security officer at a shopping center. There he confronted a man coming out of the Wal-Mart supermarket with a small child in one arm and a gallon of milk believed to be stolen in the other.
Police identified Pavia as the shoplifting suspect. Pavia warned Saiz, “I know where you live,” according to a search warrant affidavit.
Albuquerque Police Department Detective Ken Scrivner said it appears Pavia’s alleged warning was no idle threat.
“It’s unique for us,” Scrivner said.

According to police, on the night of the confrontation at the shopping center, Pavia showed up at the Saiz family’s home and fired off one round.
Members of the Saiz family got a good description of what turned out to be Pavia’s car. Police tracked him down pretty quickly.
“I have several more witnesses that were identified today that I have yet to interview,” Scrivner, who works out of APD’s Southwest Command, said. “Hopefully they’re going to shed some more light on what happened previous to the shooting.”
The search warrant affidavit reported officers found a TEC-9, a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, inside Pavia’s car.

Investigators found a 9mm casing at the scene of the shooting.
Saiz said he had no idea how the shooter knew where his son lived.
They still have questions, but the Saiz family is relieved no one was hurt. Saiz said the family is now taking precautions to make sure they’re safe.
Pavia is charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, and shooting from a motor vehicle.
He has already been released from jail pending a court date.
Police said he has been arrested before but for nonviolent offenses.
