OKLAHOMA CITY OK Jan 5 2011 — A woman rang in the new year, not with fireworks, but with a shotgun, police said.
Oklahoma City police said a drunken woman was seen with a shotgun just after midnight wandering an apartment complex in the 4300 block of South Barnes Avenue on New Year’s Day.
A security guard at the complex called police after taking custody of the woman, police said.
The security guard told police the woman was wandering the heavily populated complex and fired the shotgun in the air.
The security guard also said a small child was near the woman, according to the police report. After firing the shotgun, the woman went to return to her apartment, the police report released on Tuesday said.
Before the woman, who police suspected was inebriated, could enter her apartment, the report said the security guard confronted the woman with his gun drawn.
When the woman saw the armed security guard, police said she threw her shotgun on the ground.
After being placed in handcuffs, the woman confessed to the security guard that she had been drinking a Mexican beer, the report said.
Police recovered the shotgun and said they could not find a serial number on the weapon.
No information was released on the identity of the small child near the woman.
