ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – September 24, 2009 (WPVI) — Two Harrah’s security officers were arrested in the robbery of 14 vending machines.
On Tuesday September 22, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. Atlantic City Police received a call from Harrah’s security. Security reported that 14 vending machines were broken into and vandalized. The thefts occurred on multiple guest room floors in the Marina Tower. The vending machines are owned by Globe Vending. A representative from Globe Vending indicated that the machines were damaged by forced entry.
The estimated damage to all 14 vending machines is estimated at over $5,000.00. The estimated money removed exceeds $2,000.00.
Surveillance cameras revealed the suspects were Harrah’s security officers, later identified as Joe Callender, 22, of Mays Landing and Johnny Wright, 24, of Atlantic City. Callender and Wright were working the overnight shift and were in their security uniforms during the thefts. After the forced entry was made into each machine the cash box was stolen.
The investigation is continuing. Detective Kevin Burrows is the lead investigator and may be contacted at 609-347-5766.
Cooperation between Harrah’s Security Supervisors, Globe Vending and the Atlantic City Police Department led to the arrests.
Both males were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing, New Jersey

The little boy pulled from a casino pool Tuesday – and revived after nearly drowning – has died.
Samod Kent, 7, of Camden, died at Cooper University Hospital in Camden at 4:49 p.m. Wednesday, police were finally able to confirm Thursday. The family could not be reached before then, and the hospital could not release the information due to privacy laws.
It was a heartbreaking end to what seemed a hopeful story.
A brother and sister also at the family pool in Harrah’s Resort’s Harbour Tower had helped pull the unconscious boy out of the water, according to several news reports. Then, off-duty paramedic Kelly Hauler-Saunders jumped in to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aided by a trained security staff. The casino’s on-site nurse also arrived quickly with all the necessary equipment, Hauler-Saunders said.
“Everything that could have gone right, went right,” the longtime emergency medical services worker said after the rescue.
Samod had stopped breathing in the ambulance but was resuscitated. He was driven to Cooper, where he was reportedly on a ventilator.
But the rescue did not have a happy ending. The Atlantic City Police Department announced Samod’s death in an e-mail Thursday afternoon.
Harrah’s was keeping in touch with the family, who could not be reached for comment. Police originally said the family was from Philadelphia.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Samod,” said Jay Snowden, senior vice president and general manager of Harrah’s Resorts. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his mother and father and their entire family. We will continue to assist the family as they need us.”
There were no lifeguards on duty at the time of the incident, but all children younger than 16 are required to have an adult with them. Samod’s mother was at the pool along with another child, Hauler-Saunders said.
New Jersey Administrative Code does not require hotels to have lifeguards or first-aid personnel on site.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J Feb 22 2009 – Atlantic City police arrest a man who allegedly tried to steal more than $1200 worth of lobsters.
It happened at Bally’s Hotel/Casino, located at 1900 Boardwalk, around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Security at Bally’s said the clothes on 38-year-old Anthony Jones looked especially bulky when he was seen leaving an employee kitchen.
That’s because, they said, he had 91 frozen lobsters stashed in them and his backpack.
Police said Jones had an outstanding warrant from Egg Harbor Township.
Jones was charged with theft, criminal trespass, burglary, and contempt of court.
His bail was set at $10,000.

Two people who allegedly stole nearly $15,000 from soda vending machines on hotel guest floors in the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort were arrested Friday night, police said.
Ray Klaus, district manager for Coca Cola beverages, came to police Jan. 20 to report dozens of thefts from the vending machines his company placed on the guest floors of the Taj Mahal, police said. The suspects stole from about 60 machines, probably using a master key to remove cash totaling nearly $15,000.
Detective Thomas Holton has contacted State Police and Vineland and Millville police, who have been investigating a possible theft ring in their areas, police said
Taj Mahal security retrieved the security surveillance videos, and a couple was seen in the hotel hallways. Philip Silvers, 28, and Crystal Studstill, 26, both of Millville, were identified, and State Police arrested them Friday night at Studstill’s home, department spokeswoman Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.
Both were charged with theft of more than $500, vandalism and conspiracy, and would be taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $75,000 bail, McMenamin said.

Man indicted for rape at casino http://www.privateofficer.com
Atlantic City NJ May 23 2008 A Philadelphia man was indicted Tuesday on charges he tried to rape a woman in a stairwell of an Atlantic City casino, county Prosecutor Ted Housel said.
John J. Aleksiejczyk, 44, who was last known to live in Philadelphia and the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, was indicted on charges of sexual assault and criminal restraint after a March attack in a stairwell at Caesars Atlantic City, Housel said.
The 37-year-old victim, whose name was not released, came to Philadelphia on a business trip from her home in California and made a trip to Atlantic City on March 9, Housel said.
The victim was looking for help in finding a friend’s lost slot-club card when Aleksiejczyk approached her, Atlantic City police said at the time. He led her into a stairwell, where he allegedly began to choke and sexually assault her.
The woman screamed, and casino worker Rodney Menz called security for help, police
said at the time. Security supervisors Anthony Morris and J.P. Singh interrupted the
attack and held Aleksiejczyk until police arrived to arrest him.
Aleksiejczyk was arrested in January 1998 when he approached a 15-year-old Canadian girl wandering on the casino floor at Resorts Atlantic City. He identified himself as a security officer and told the girl she looked too young to be on the casino floor. Her parents approached and agreed to let him escort her back to the room, but instead he took her to a bar and tried to order alcohol for her. A surveillance camera showed him pushing the girl against the wall of an elevator on the way up to her room.
In that incident, Aleksiejczyk pleaded guilty to fourth-degree child abuse and was sentenced to five years’ probation.
Aleksiejczyk remains in the Atlantic County Jail on $350,000 bail for the March incident, Housel said Tuesday
