Shelbyville IN Aug 11 2012 An Indiana teacher has been booted from the classroom after allegations she lured underage students to her home for “pizza and sex” parties.
School officials announced Wednesday that Bethany Appleton is no longer an employee at Shelbyville Middle School, where the 28-year-old taught special-needs students.
“[The school district] holds its teachers to a high standard of conduct and takes these allegations very seriously,” Shelbyville Central Schools Superintendent David Adams said in a statement, according to Fox 59 in Indianapolis.
Adams said the teacher’s last day was Monday.
Appleton was arrested Wednesday and charged with several counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and child seduction.
Investigators say she had sex with at least one 15-year-old boy, but expect there are several victims.
According to an affidavit, Appleton was “having high school aged boys over to her house for pizza and sex,” where there was also “hugging and kissing.”
She allowed the students to smoke marijuana and they “drank alcoholic beverages together,” the document states.
The Star Press reports the incidents took place between April 2011 and May 2012.
Appleton pleaded not guilty to the felony charges and was released from the Shelby County Jail after posting bond. She is due in court Oct. 3.
Appleton’s arrest is the second time a Shelbyville school employee has been accused of having sex with underage students this summer.
In June, Megan Crafton, 22, an assistant cheerleading coach at Shelbyville High School, was arrested after she allegedly performed a sex act on a 17-year-old basketball player at the school.
Crafton pleaded not guilty to child-seduction charges.
