http://www.privateofficer.com/ — Four teenagers were taken to area hospitals — two with stab wounds — following a brawl early Tuesday afternoon at Spring Hill Mall, authorities said.
Police Chief Dave Sawyer said the four boys, all in their early teens, were found lying in the parking lot outside Old Country Buffet on the mall’s east side when West Dundee police responded to a report of a fight in progress inside the mall at 12:45 p.m.
Two had been either punched or kicked, and the other two were stabbed in the chest and abdomen.
We don’t know if it was done with a knife or another sharp object,” Sawyer said.
None of those injuries was life-threatening, according to the police chief.
The fight started near the mall food court after the four boys were confronted by another group of eight to 10 people.
The confrontation worked its way down the Sears wing of the mall, according to reports, and that’s when the fight became physical.
Mall security stepped in and apprehended one person, who was being questioned by West Dundee police Tuesday afternoon, and others involved in the fight fled the scene.
“We don’t know what group he was with — the group of four that got hurt or the group of eight to 10 that got away,” Sawyer said.
The stabbing victims were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, while the others were taken to Provena Saint Joseph in Elgin. West Dundee police also questioned those who were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon.
East Dundee, Carpentersville and Sleepy Hollow police also helped search the area for those who had fled after the fight.
“We’re not getting a lot of information,” Sawyer said. “Nobody likes the police anymore.”
Sawyer said it appears everyone involved in the fight had known each other, but he added that the investigation still was in its early stages.
Police also were investigating whether the fight was gang-related.
Charges most likely will come later this week in connection with the fight, the chief said, and West Dundee police will step up their patrols of Spring Hill Mall.
The stabbings follow a March 27 incident in which a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest in the parking lot outside Kohl’s in the Carpentersville section of the mall.
Two Carpentersville men later were arrested and charged with attempted murder in the shooting.
