Recently, security officers at 32 federal buildings in Arizona have gone unpaid for three weeks, including the ports of entry in Douglas, Naco, Nogales, and Yuma.
The security officers who guard the federal building downtown are contract employees of National Command Link Network also known as NCLN-20, a private security firm out of the bay area.
Union representative Bob Inman says Arizona employees have had problems with their paychecks.
“They were paid on the 29th of August and their checks bounced that pay period,” says Inman.
Inman says the company has been bouncing checks every since they took over the contract nearly a year ago.
One employee tried four times to get his August 28th paycheck cashed. Each time the bank told him there are no funds in that account.
Bob Inman says he gets phone calls daily from workers.
“He said I just finally got my rent straightened out and now my landlord came over today for rent. I don’t have any money to pay my rent what are they going to do put me, my wife and kids on the street.”
Some of the security officers are threatening to leave their posts but Inman is persuading them to stay and is working on getting this straightened out.
NCLN 20 say it’s not true and asked that we contact their attorney. Repeated calls to the firm to get their attorney’s name were not returned.
The federal government claims that they have paid NCLN 20 and are not renewing their contract with the company next year.
