Chicago area jewelry store manager stole $200,000 worth of gold bars www.privateofficer.com
Glen Ellyn IL May 10 2012 A 12-year employee of a west suburban jewelry store has been charged with stealing and then reselling more than $200,000 worth of gold bars from the store over a six-month period, police said.
Daniel Knaack, 50, a manager at Costello Jewelry in Glen Ellyn, stole 15 gold bars, then sold the gold — worth about $211,000, Glen Ellyn police said.
Knaack “was a manager of the store who had access to the gold,” Deputy Chief Bill Holmer said.
The thefts occurred over a six-month period, and toward the end the owner of the store discovered some of the gold was missing,” Holmer said.
The investigation led to Knaack, who was charged in an arrest warrant. He turned himself in to police on April 27, Holmer said.
