WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. May 9 2009
wpbf.com– A Conniston Community Middle School science teacher accused of stealing from the West Palm Beach school and pawning the items is the third Palm Beach County public school teacher arrested on theft charges in the past month.
Police said Adolfo Espinoza stole thousands of dollars worth of school equipment, taking laptops, a sewing machine and a movie projector, among other items.
Pawn shop records indicate Espinoza received $80 from Presto Pawn for the movie projector that the school bought for $4,053, and he got $40 for a $2,055 sewing machine.
According to the police report, Espinoza admitted to stealing the items because “his family was going through very tough financial times” and that his wife knew he was pawning the equipment.
Espinoza was arrested Wednesday and has been released on bond.
WPBF News 25 has been unable to reach him or the school for comment.
Last week, Jorge Gonzalez was arrested on the same charges. Police said he pawned more than 68 items from 2006 to 2008.
Gonzalez lives in Royal Palm Beach but had been working at S.D. Spady Elementary School in Delray Beach. He’s accused of stealing computers, printers and cameras and pawning them at Value Pawn.
Police said he denied stealing any school property.
In April, Curtis Banks was accused of stealing thousands of dollars intended to help pay for South Olive Elementary School’s safety patrol trip to Washington.
