Black Friday nearly turned deadly for security at the Mall of the Bluffs after an alleged shoplifter struck a security guard with her vehicle as she fled the parking lot.
Council Bluffs police reports stated that a woman attempted to take three hats, a dress and a bottle of perfume from Deb Shops without paying for the merchandise at 9 p.m. An employee of the store struggled with the woman as she attempted to exit the shop.
The employee was able to get the woman’s purse containing the merchandise, but the woman left the store. Mall security pursued the woman through the building.
The 52-year-old guard was struck on his left leg and knee by the bumper and on his chest with the driver’s side mirror, but reports indicated he refused medical treatment.
Witnesses saw the vehicle strike the guard and drive through the parking lot in a reckless manner.
Reports stated officers were able to locate the suspect’s driver’s license and witnesses positively identified her as the perpetrator of the crime. However, officers were unable to locate the woman.
