DALLAS Tx. Dec. 13, 2007 — A former security guard at a Neiman Marcus store has pleaded guilty on Tuesday to stealing jewelry from the store and selling it on the eBay auction Web site.
Prosecutors say Manuel Alvarez, 37, of Mesquite, faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of transporting stolen goods in interstate commerce and aiding and abetting. Sentencing is scheduled for March 8.
U.S. Attorney Richard Roper said Alvarez admits stealing at least 400 pieces of jewelry with a value totaling $200,000 to $400,000 in 2004 and 2005. Those items were passed to accomplices who sold them on eBay and divided the proceeds with Alvarez, authorities say.
There was no word on charges involving the accomplices but others could be arrested in this case.
