Best Buy employee charged with theft over $10,000 http://www.privateofficer.com

Fort Smith Ark. Dec 28 2008 – An 18-year old Best Buy employee faces theft charges after store officials discovered more than $10,000 worth of electronic products were missing, according to a Fort Smith police report.
Gary Brown Jr. of Van Buren was arrested Sunday on a charge of felony theft. Officials at the Best Buy at 4195 Phoenix Ave. told police that over the past three weeks, 39 iPods, two cell phones, a laptop computer and a digital camera were taken.
Brown has been released from the Sebastian County jail on a $3,500 bond. It couldn’t be determined Wednesday if formal charges have been filed.
The police report listed six other Best Buy employees as suspects, but no other arrests have been made, according to police records.
Police spokesman Sgt. Levi Risley said one of the suspects, Cory Evans, 18, of Muldrow, Okla., was arrested Sunday on an unrelated felony shoplifting charge that also involved Best Buy merchandise. Jail records show he was released Sunday after posting a $1,500 bond.
The police report stated Brown admitted taking several items. He said he unloaded trucks at the store and would put items in an empty box and throw it into a large trash compactor. When the compactor was full, he would climb in to collapse the boxes in it and would place the stashed items in his pockets and leave with them.
He said he sold many of the items.
Brown told officers he threw the items into the compactor because he knew there were surveillance cameras in the loading area but that inside the compactor was out of their range.
Store officials became suspicious because products ordered were missing, the report said. Surveillance camera footage showed suspicious activity, but the thefts were not witnessed because there were no cameras in the compactor.

Target employees charged in thefts from store www.privateofficer.com

Target employees charged in thefts from store http://www.privateofficer.com

Norridge IL Nov 21 2008
Police reported the following theft arrests this week:
Linette Quinones, 28, of 511 S. 9th, in Maywood, and Brenda Miranda, 27, of 2506 N. Long Ave., in Chicago, were arrested Nov. 4 at the Norridge Police Department, 4020 N. Olcott Ave., and charged with felony retail theft.
An assets protection manager for Target, 4050 N. Harlem Ave., told police on Sept. 5 that a FedEx driver had been asked by Quinones, a Target shipping/receiving employee, to take an unmarked package from the building for her.
She allegedly told the driver she’d pick it up later.
The Target manager learned that Quinones and Miranda, a Target sales associate, had been taking merchandise from the sales floor, along with deliveries, donations and returns, and organizing the merchandise in the store’s receiving area.
The manger discovered a box containing 70 DVD movies valued at $1,047 was staged in the receiving area.
Police said Miranda picked that box up on Sept. 11 from Quinones, placed it in her personal vehicle and left the store area.
According to police reports, Quinones had staged five Apple iPODs and two boxes of Softline products valued at $1,099.95 on Sept. 18, which were picked up from Quinones by Miranda on Sept. 25.
Police said the Target manager followed Miranda to her home, where she gave the merchandise to an unidentified man.
On Oct. 25, Quinones allegedly selected 60 DVD movies and staged them with paper goods, diapers and bottled water, all valued at $1,586.83, on a flatbed cart.
Police said, a second unidentified man — driving an office products truck — picked the items up on Oct. 29.
The two women were interviewed by Target personnel on Nov. 4. Then they were transported for processing to the Norridge Police Department, where they both signed statements admitting to the thefts.
At a Nov. 5 hearing in Rolling Meadows, bond for each was set at $10,000. They are scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Dec. 3 in Room 108 of the Rolling Meadows Court House.
• Alana Lozoya, 22, of 4822 W. Dakin St., Chicago, was arrested Nov. 7 at The Children’s Place, 4156 N. Harlem Ave., and charged with felony retail theft.
Police said Lozoya, a store employee, processed 14 receipts between Aug. 14 and Nov. 3 for refunds, although no merchandise was returned, causing a loss to the store of $790.96.
At a Nov. 8 hearing in Rolling Meadows, bond for Lozoya was set at $3,000. She is scheduled to appear at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8 in Room 108 of the Rolling Meadows Court House.
• Diana Siddique, 30, and Sharall Flores, 20, both of 7109 W. Foster Ave., in Chicago, were arrested Nov. 8 at Kmart, 4201 N. Harlem Ave., and charged with retail theft. Store security agents told police they saw the two women conceal merchandise in their bags and in a baby stroller and leave the store without paying. They were escorted to the store’s loss-prevention office, where items valued at $85.40 were recovered from Siddique and items valued at $85.45 were recovered from Flores. Bond for each was set at $1,000. They are slated for Dec. 8 court appearances.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
• Champaine Presley, 20, of 520 N. Leamington Ave., Chicago, was arrested Nov. 6 at Footlocker, 4136 N. Harlem Ave., and charged with receiving goods in violation of the Credit/Debit Card Act. Police said Presley, a store employee, used a debit card she took without permission from another employee’s jacket pocket to pay for $8.29 in food at Tom and Jerry’s, at Harlem Irving Plaza, on Nov. 4. Bond for Presley was set at $1,000. She is scheduled for a Dec. 16 court appearance.

Two employees of a city Target store face serious charges after they were busted by store security agents. NYPD said the two were spotted by agents on video looting the stockroom at a department store in East New York.
When the two employees try to make a run for it and flee the store, loss prevention agents cornered them and took both into custody.
Now police have arrested Derick Latouche and Matthew Taylor, both 20, after security say they were seen stuffing duffel bags full of merchandise inside the stockroom of the Target store at the Gateway Mall shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday.
Inside the two duffel bags, authorities found more than $2,500 worth of merchandise, including 4 PlayStation video-game consoles, 10 Nintendo game systems, and assorted video games and DVDs, sources said.

K-Mart employees arrested in credit card scam www.privateofficer.com

Cullman police say that they arrested two women Sunday after they allegedly stole gift cards from the local Kmart while they worked there as cashiers.
Cullman police responded to assist the loss prevention agents during an investigation of internal theft involving employees Kelly Michelle Walker, 25 of Cullman and Kristie Walker Hogeland, 35 of Hanceville.

Both were charged with theft of property in the first degree.
Capt. Max Bartlett of the Cullman Police Department said Walker and Hogeland both admitted to their involvement in the thefts, which occurred between April 16 and May 25 of this year.
According to police reports, the arrests stem from a Kmart internal investigation that the company’s loss prevention personnel conducted and then notified the sheriff department. “The system had flagged a problem and they (Kmart) became aware of it,” Bartlett said.
The investigation conducted by internal loss prevention agents revealed that Walker and Hogeland were allegedly applying for credit at Kmart with different social security numbers. “It appears at this time that they were random numbers that the two would insert into the system,” Bartlett said. “Through the credit, they would receive gift cards.”Bartlett said several of the gift cards and receipts for Kmart merchandise were recovered during the investigation. He did not know if any merchandise was recovered.
Bartlett noted that since different social security numbers were used during the crime, the credit of several individuals could have been hurt. “Kmart is probably going to rectify the situation and clear people’s credit,” he said.
Loss prevention agents confronted the two and obtained confessions from both about their involvement in the scheme.
Hogeland and Walker were transported to the Cullman County Detention Center. Both were later released on separate $10,000 bonds.Theft of property in the first degree is a Class B felony, punishable by as much as 20 years in prison.
