The Commercial Appeal newspaper cites a police affidavit in reporting 23-year-old Britany Cephas was arrested after a FedEx security officer found the tagged rings March 19 when he scanned Cephas’ handbag as she left work at the company’s sorting hub in Memphis.
The affidavit states the rings are worth more than $2,700 and came from a package that had contained $35,000 worth of rings, but arrived empty at its destination.
Security personnel detained Cephas and notified Memphis police who took into custody for felony theft.
The investigation is continuing according to police.
The newspaper reported Cephas was being held in lieu of $3,000 bond.
