Police say what started as a minor shoplifting incident involving a $3.26 item escalated quickly into a felony robbery charge.
Police said that when Logan Lynn Campbell, 18, of Diana was stopped by Wal-Mart security and told to come back inside he began fighting with them and injured one security officer escalating the theft charge to robbery.
Campbell was subdued and police arrested him and transported him to the county detention where he remains jailed on a $7,500 bond, charged with one count of robbery.
Officers responded to the she shoplifting call at Wal-Mart, 515 E. Loop 281, around 6 p.m. Friday.
According to an arrest report, Campbell attempted to shoplift an unknown item and resisted all security atempts to detain hm.
Police said that regardless of the value of a shoplifted item, when force is used to steal that item, the state law elevates the charge to robbery, a much more serious offense.
