The report said Nelder was carrying 0.9 grams of marijuana when he was pulled over in his vehicle at the intersection of Lake Park Boulevard and Raleigh Avenue in Carolina Beach by Lt. Andrew Everhart of the Kure Beach Police Department.
It is unclear from the report why Nelder was pulled over in his vehicle. The arrest report only listed basic information, and the narrative of the incident was blacked out. Kure Beach Police Department representatives did not return phone calls Friday seeking additional information.
Kure Beach Mayor Dean Lambeth said Nelder and Kure Beach police officers called to inform him of the charges, but he said he has not yet seen the police report.
“He swore an oath to uphold the laws in the state of North Carolina,” Lambeth said, adding that he wasn’t sure if the town would reprimand Nelder for the charges.
Nelder, of 601 Sandman Drive, is seeking re-election in November’s election.
He did not return calls seeking comments.
