Man charged with shoplifting after attempting to steal TVs, Bayonne police say www.privateofficer.com
Around 3:30 p.m., police responded to a reported shoplifting at a Walmart located at Bayonne Crossing Way off of Route 440 North, according to the police report.
Upon arrival police found store security had detained 46-year-old Lester Williams of Van Wagenen Avenue when he attempted to leave the store with two unpaid for flat screen television in his shopping cart, the report said.
Williams said he was going to trade in the televisions for drugs, adding that he has been battling drug addiction, the report said.
During a background check police discovered Williams had two outstanding warrants, one from Newark and another from Atlantic City, the report said.
The total value of the stolen items was $556, the report said.
Williams was charged with shoplifting and was taken to the county jail, the report said.
