Colorado babysitter arrested for death of infant www.privateofficer.com

MONTROSE, Colo.Jan 1 2011 — A Montrose baby sitter has been jailed on suspicion of killing a 4-month-old boy.

Maria Espinosa Zavala, 31, is being held on suspicion of manslaughter. Authorities said she caused the Oct. 9 death of Angel Nieto, who was declared brain dead after what the Montrose County coroner concluded was “non-accidental trauma.”

The boy was hospitalized on Oct. 7 after a 911 call placed by Zavala. Authorities haven’t said how they believe the baby was injured. Officers at the scene reported no outward sign of injury on the boy.

An arrest affidavit was filed under seal. The Grand Junction Sentinel reported Zavala is being held at the Montrose County Jail on $150,000 bond.
