A store security officer attempting to stop a shoplifter was seriously injured after the shoplifter stabbed him several times in the chest.
Bail was set Wednesday at $100,000 for the Schaumburg man accused of stealing three bottles of champagne from the northwest suburban discount store and then stabbing the loss prevention agent.
Police apprehended and arrested Bradley Kellett, 27, of the 600 block of Waterford Road, and he’s been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and retail theft, prosecutors said at a hearing in the Rolling Meadows branch of Cook County Circuit Court.
Kellett took the champagne Tuesday evening from a Meijer store in Rolling Meadows, placed the bottles under his clothing and left without paying, Assistant State’s Atty. Matt Fakhoury said.
The security officer was stabbed in the chest when he tried to stop Kellett outside the store, Fakhoury said.
The officer was reported in stable condition at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with a collapsed lung, authorities said.
Fakhoury said the value of the champagne was less than $150.

www.privateofficer.com- A shoplifting apprehension attempt turned violent when a store security agent was attacked by three people and later beaten with a crowbar.
Police said the incident happened Monday night at the Meijer store on Preston Highway.
Police said the loss prevention agent watched as a trio stole shoes and when he tried to stop the three people from stealing the shoes, he was attacked and seriously injured.
“The security officer had one of the gentlemen in a hold, and the female came up behind him and tried to scratch his eyes out and left scratches and stuff across his cheek,” said Metro Police Officer Kori Thurman. “The person that was in the hold also bit the security officer on the arm and hand several times.”
Police said the suspects got away, but came back to the store, found the store security officer and went after him again with a baseball bat and a crowbar.
Christopher Miller, Kent Thompson and Jennifer Powell fled the store a second time, but were later taken into custody in Bullitt County, where police said Powell is wanted on for allegedly conning an elderly man out of thousands of dollars and giving him a pill that almost killed him.The store security agent, who police did not identify was treated for numerous non-life threatening injuries and released from a local hospital.

Police arrest man for exposing himself inside store www.privateofficer.com

Police arrest man for exposing himself inside store http://www.privateofficer.com

Greenwood IN OCT 3 2008 – A man is under arrest after police say he exposed himself in front of a woman at the Greenwood Meijer store. Store surveillance apparently caught the incident on tape.
The alleged victim was shopping for birthday presents in the toy aisle.
“She had noticed this man had been following her around the store,” said Detective Brent Goebel, Greenwood Police Department.
Surveillance video shows the man walk up behind the woman.
“Look how close he gets,” Det. Goebel pointed out.
Then, police say, the man exposes himself and touches himself in front of the female shopper.
“When she turned, it was that same man that was following her,” said Goebel.
The victim walked away and called for help.
“He followed her into the next aisle where she was starting to make a phone call and he said, ‘No, no, don’t do that. Don’t do that,’” said Det. Goebel.
The suspect, now identified as 37-year-old William Darren Hungerford, eventually left the store where security cameras captured him stealing a stereo.
Just two days after getting caught on camera, Hungerford was back at the same Meijer, police say, to steal from the store again. They arrested him for shoplifting and investigators say his mug shot is what helped to crack that first case.
Meijer employees recognized Hungerford as the man in the surveillance video exposing himself a few days earlier. Police say he wore the same shirt while committing both crimes. The victim picked him out of a photo line-up and police made the arrest.
Hungerford is a registered sex offender with prior convictions for sexual battery and indecent exposure. He just got out of prison for theft two weeks ago.
Detectives say Hungerford told them he went to the Meijer store to steal. Police say the video shows he did a lot more than that.
