At a press conference Friday, Lawson announced the arrest of Officer Gustavo Rivera for principal to theft, malfeasance in office, and obstruction of justice. In addition, Lawson said they have terminated Rommel Figueroa, Doug Zemlik and James Gregoire III for violation of department regulations.
According to Lawson, the four officers were off duty at a lounge when another man who had been riding a motorcycle came inside the building. Lawson said the man and at least one of the officers exchanged unpleasant glances and that led Gustavo and another bar patron, identified as Daniel Kempton, to leave the bar and move the motorcycle several blocks away.
The motorcycle was reported missing on Dec. 19 and was recovered earlier this month.
Lawson said the investigation was turned over to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office task force and the officers in question were asked about the bike’s disappearance and denied any involvement, but he said a surveillance camera caught the move.
Gustavo was arrested for his involvement, while the other officers were fired for their knowledge of the incident and their failure to report it, according to Lawson.

A Northeast District police officer has been charged with three counts of menacing in connection with an incident early Feb. 16 outside the Town Ballroom in the 600 block of Main Street, The Buffalo News has learned.
Officer Mitchell J. Thomas, 38, of Montcalm Street, is accused of pointing and waving a gun, Buffalo police reports said.
Thomas, suspended from duty without pay last Friday, was booked on the three charges Wednesday morning after an investigation by the department’s Professional Standards Division. He is a 10-year veteran of the force.
According to the complaints filed by the club’s manager of security and two security guards, Thomas was off duty and asked to bring his gun into the club.
“In accordance with our policy, I told Mr. Thomas that he could not bring his weapon into the club,” according to a statement to police by security guard Arthur Mangone. “[Security guard Nathan] Duerr and I explained the policy to Mr. Thomas that no patrons, not even police officers, were allowed to bring a gun into the club.”
Reports stated Thomas then asked to speak with the manager of security, Stanley Susz.
Susz stated: “Mr. Thomas insisted on being allowed to bring his gun into the club and stated that he had previously done so. I explained that there was a new owner in the past couple of years and that, per policy, no person was allowed to bring a gun into the club.”
Susz alleged that Thomas became “belligerent,” saying: “Who you gonna call? You gonna call me. I’m gonna come here, I’m gonna show up, I’m gonna come up here with some guys, and we’re gonna check everything and shut this place down.”
Then, a male and female companion with Thomas, along with two security guards, tried to escort Thomas away, according to the police reports.
At that time, it’s alleged that Thomas continued to carry on.
He, according to Susz’s complaint, then “pulled out a handgun, pointed and waved the gun at [Susz, Mangone and Duerr] and yelled.”
After several more security personnel intervened, Thomas was moved away from the club entrance, the reports stated.

Ronald L. Whitworth Jr., 35, was booked and processed on Sept. 11, according to sheriff’s officials. Shelby County deputies arrested Whitworth in April. He spent six days in jail before he was released on $260,000 bond.
The Secret Service searched Whitworth’s home in May, when authorities discovered child pornography on Whitworth’s computer. A federal grand jury later indicted Whitworth on charges of possessing child pornography and transporting a minor across state lines.
According to police, Whitworth then fled to Los Angeles and Lynnwood, Wash., where he was captured on Aug. 18 by the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force.
On Monday, Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Greene denied Whitworth bond during a detention hearing in Birmingham. Greene also deemed Whitworth a flight risk and a danger to the community and ordered him held until his trial.

A police officer for the city of Erie, Colo. was arrested Wednesday night after an 18-year-old woman said he fondled her following her arrest.
Chad Aaron Broder, 25, was arrested at his home in Frederick, Colo., by Greeley detectives after a complaint was filed on Sept. 3 by the woman.
The alleged victim said she was arrested for violation of a restraining order and was handcuffed in the front seat of a City of Erie marked police car on Sept. 1, when Broder touched her inappropriately and placed her hands on him. She was being driven to the Weld County jail at the time.
She said he pulled over in the 2400 block of O Street in Greeley at about 6 p.m.
According Broder’s arrest affidavit obtained by the Greeley Tribune, Broder unlocked one of her hands and told her not to do anything stupid. He then kissed her, placed her hand on his crotch and placed his hand near her groin, the affidavit alleged.
Broder also allegedly asked about the woman’s sexual fetishes, which he said he had read about on her MySpace Web site. The woman said he asked her if she had ever engaged in sexual acts while handcuffed or had sex with a police officer in uniform.
When police were contacted by the woman, they had her telephone Broder while they recorded the conversation and he allegedly talked about what happened, the affidavit stated.
Broder was booked for investigation of criminal attempt to commit sexual assault and investigation of unlawful sexual contact.
He remained in the Weld County Jail Thursday, with no bond, pending a court appearance.

Police officer charged with aggravated rape www.privateofficer.com
Police officer charged with aggravated rape http://www.privateofficer.com
Authorities say the offer sounded simple but chilling.
“She was driving on a revoked license, and he made a deal that he wouldn’t arrest her if she did the evil deed for him,” LaFollette Police Chief Ben Baird said. “He told her she had to have sex with him, and he’d let her go. I guess the arrest went the other way.”
Jeremy S. Cross turned himself in Tuesday to face charges of raping a woman at gunpoint during a traffic stop.
A Campbell County grand jury indicted Cross, a former LaFollette police officer, last week on charges of aggravated rape, official oppression and two counts of official misconduct.
Cross had worked for the department for about three years when he pulled the woman’s car over July 5 on North Tennessee Avenue, Baird said.
Authorities said Cross forced the woman to have sex with him behind some warehouses on nearby Howard Armstrong Lane under threat of arrest if she refused.
“There was a patrol rifle in the seat, and he would have been carrying his service weapon,” the chief said. “He apparently cut his (incruiser video) camera off, which is a violation of our rules and regulations.”
Baird said he called in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation the same day he learned of the woman’s complaint.
“It happened on a Friday,” the chief said. “She filed her complaint on Monday around 2 p.m. By 4 p.m., we had the TBI investigating.”
He said he didn’t know whether TBI agents recovered DNA evidence from either car.
Cross resigned soon after the investigation began. He’d previously worked as a deputy in neighboring Scott County and had no history of discipline problems other than a few minor write-ups for such offenses as showing up late for court, the chief said.
“I’m going to send a message to everybody that I don’t tolerate this sort of behavior from anybody. It’s a stain on everybody who wears a badge up here.
“We have 20 other people in this department, and most everybody here is very professional. If they’re not, I don’t keep them long.”
Cross remains free on $50,000 bond.
He could make his first court appearance Sept. 8.

A Russellville Police Officer finds himself on the other side of the law. He’s been arrested on a felony drug charge.
Officer Gerald Wayne McClurg has been with the Russellville Police Department since 2002.
Wednesday night, the veteran officer was arrested. He’s charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, which is a Class C felony.
Police Chief Chris Hargett says McClurg was on duty when he allegedly tried to buy Loricet prescription pills.
“He purchased the pills from one of the undercover informants that we have here at the police department,” says Hargett.
Sources tells NewsChannel 19 that Officer McClurg has a history of medical problems and it’s likely he became addicted to the medicine.
Chief Hargett describes the incident as a “black eye” for the department, but is quick to point out that it will be handled the same way as any other case.
“We want the public to understand that we’re going to police the public as well as the police department,” says Hargett. “If someone in the police department crosses the line, then we’re going to be there to correct that also. We’re going to treat them the same way.”
Following his arrest, Officer McClurg was booked into the Franklin County Jail. He was released after posting his $2,000 bond.
The arrested officer is on administrative leave without pay until the internal investigation is complete.

Phoenix police officer arrested on porn charges www.privateofficer.com
Phoenix officer arrested on porn charges http://www.privateofficer.com
A press release identified their officer as Detective Richard Polk, a father of two, is now charged with the sexual exploitation of a minor. This came after a search of his home and computer.
Police are using words like accused criminal, sexual exploitation and child pornography when describing their comrade. This is a harsh reality for the department.
Phoenix Police were tipped off by the feds last September, eight months ago, that ICE, as part of its “Operation Predator” program, was investigating Polk.
Polk is accused of purchasing and sharing child pornography using an online banking service. Police searched the detective’s home in Surprise where they reportedly found numerous “thumb drives” with approximately 20 videos, one depicting a 15-year-old girl naked. Another video showed an 8-year-old-girl naked and blindfolded and tied up with yellow ropes.
Phoenix Police recently took over the case and Wednesday confronted Polk while on the job at police headquarters before arresting him. He now faces 10 counts.
Detective Mike Polk is a 27-year veteran of the force. He was arrested late Wednesday afternoon.
Polk has been involved in some high-profile murder investigations. He has also been on television featured on the A&E reality show, “The First 48″. The show follows murder investigations in major cities around the country.
Polk was featured in at least two episodes the press release said.
Polk, who lives in Surprise, has been with the Phoenix Police Department for more than 25 years.
Bond for the Phoenix homicide detective has been set at $25,000.
