Authorities responding to a shoplifting call that a security officer trying to detain a female shoplifter found himself hanging on for dear life literally.
Police said the 19-year-old woman was caught stealing clothes from a Kohls store and as the loss prevention agent tried to stop her as she tried driving off ,the security officer was soon hanging onto her steering wheel, Redlands police said.
Lorraine Sylvia Carrion, of Redlands, was arrested on suspicion of robbery for the 7:30 p.m. incident in the Citrus Plaza parking lot.
A Kohl’s loss prevention officer wathed the theft go down and then followed Carrion into the parking lot said Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker.
She ignored him and got into a blue 1989 Chevy Blazer that had been stolen out of Anaheim, police said.
The security officer “was hanging onto the steering wheel in the parking lot while she was tring to drive away,” Baker said. Police were called and was able to get there quickly and arrested the female.
Authorities said that a few citizens helped stop the vehicle and assisted security with holding her until officers arrived. Police said that the store security agent was not injured.
