Bridgeton High School enforcement officer suspended, security guard arrested www.privateofficer.com

BRIDGETON NJ May 16 2013 — Police were called at 9:30 a.m. on May 6 to Bridgeton High School for an incident.
At that time, education enforcement officer Leo Marquez told them he was assaulted by both a juvenile and a school security staff member.
Marquez told them he was in the area of the school gym when he saw the juvenile with other juveniles.
He said the juvenile assaulted him and he defended himself. He added that the security guard, Alexis Rodriquez, also assaulted him and he arrested him.
The altercation was broken up and the juvenile was arrested and taken to the nurse’s office and later to Inspira Health Center, in Bridgeton, where he was treated.
The extent of his injuries is not in the report, although a cousin said he received five stitches.
The police report stated he suffered some physical injury to his face.
The police report said Rodriquez was placed under arrest for assaulting Marquez while apparently trying stop further altercation.
Marquez faces no charges at this time.
Both the juvenile and Rodriquez were released on summonses, one to juvenile court and the other to municipal court.
At Tuesday night’s board of education meeting, Marquez asked to speak before the board in open session.
Marquez admitted he had been suspended and cited his nine-year record as a security officer, saying he “had only a couple of blemishes.
“I had an altercation with a student on May 6 here in the school and I have been suspended,’’ he said.
“I have been an officer here for the past nine years.
“I was aggravated by two different people.
“I don’t know what my current status is, and I don’t know if I’m going to get reinstated and want to make sure everything is clear.
“Maybe I should have handled the incident differently, but when you’re a police officer, you respond right away.
“I think I should be OK.’’
Board President Angie Edwards told him the entire board had not been apprised of the incident, so it would not be discussed at the meeting.
In response to a question, Edwards asked a reporter before the meeting if he had seen a videotape of the incident.
She indicated she had.
When contacted by the South Jersey Times after the incident, Director of Security Bob Stevens said it was a personnel matter and would be handled in-house.
He gave no further information.
A phone call to Stevens Wednesday morning asking if Marquez was suspended with pay was not immediately returned.

Security guard arrested, accused of pointing laser at Orange Co. sheriff’s helicopter www.privateofficer.com

0009

Orange County Fla Jan 24 2013 The incident happened early Thursday morning while 28-year-old William Leverance was on duty and the chopper crew was in the air investigating a call.
“Literally, it’s like someone turning on a light bulb inside the aircraft,” said Orange County Commander Bill Armstrong.
Armstrong said Chase Two was targeted by someone on the ground shining a laser beam.
The pilot, investigating a stolen car call in Apopka, had to take evasive action to avoid being temporarily blinded.
“We don’t know at this point if we’re being targeted by a ground weapon with a laser on the end of a rifle or a 12-year-old with something he bought at the store,” said Armstrong.
The second time, investigators said, they were able to locate where the light was coming from and directed deputies to Leverance. He denied targeting the chopper.
“He indicated he used this laser at home with a rifle, starting fires, but couldn’t explain why he had it at work,” said Orange County Sheriff spokeswoman Jane Watrel.
Leverance was jailed on a state felony charge, but his trouble does not stop there.
“This case will be sent to the Federal Aviation Administration and federal prosecutors who do nothing but handle these types of cases. Generally it results in federal jail time,” said Watrel
These cases are not isolated. Last year in Orange County, investigators said they arrested eight people for shining lasers at helicopters and other aircraft
The lasers come with a warning of their potentially dangerous effects, and the Sheriff’s Office said it always prosecutes these types of cases.

“This is someone that should have known better,” said Watrel.

Guard charged with computer thefts www.privateofficer.com

Johnston PA April 30 2009
democrat news
A former security guard at a Johnstown business is accused of stealing nearly $50,000 in company computers.
And as police closed in, authorities said, he took 80 of the computers into a wooded area and set them on fire.
Nathan Patrick Binnie, 26, of Iolite Avenue, Johnstown, was charged by city detectives with burglary, arson, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, tampering with evidence and conspiracy.

In an affidavit of probable cause, police said that 94 computers – towers, monitors, keyboards and a mouse for each – were stolen from a storage facility of Intermedia Marketing, 1003 Broad St.
Binnie was a security guard and quit after it was discovered the equipment was missing, police said.
Witnesses told police they saw a blue van in the area during the week in January when the equipment was stolen. That led police to question Binnie, who drove a blue Dodge Caravan.
At least two people said Binnie stashed some of the computers at their homes, police said.
Binnie later admitted taking the equipment, authorities said.

After news of the incident got out, he took about 80 of the machines into a wooded area behind St. Therese Roman Catholic Church on Decker Avenue and set them on fire, authorities said.
Binnie was arraigned Monday by District Judge Max Pavlovich of Richland Township, the on-call magistrate, and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post $50,000 bond

Security guard charged with kidnapping, sexual assaults http://www.privateofficer.com

SAN DIEGO CA Mar 1 2009 — Police have arrested a 22-year-old security guard on suspicion of kidnapping and sexually assaulting two women he had just met.
Brandon Burrus of San Diego was taken into custody while he was at work Tuesday night and booked into the downtown county jail with bail set at $900,000, said San Diego police sex crimes Lt. Rick O’Hanlon.
Burrus is facing multiple sex-assault charges, including rape and kidnapping with intent to commit rape, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
O’Hanlon said the first incident happened in December in the Mid City area of San Diego. He said a woman in her 20s was introduced to Burrus by an acquaintance while they were at someone’s home.
The victim told investigators that she agreed to go to a store with Burrus. After she got into the vehicle he took out a weapon, drove her to a secluded area in a park and sexually assaulted her, O’Hanlon said.
He said the second attack was on Feb. 20. A woman in her 20s told investigators that she met Burrus at a bar in Mission Beach and agreed to let him give her a ride home. The woman said that while in the car, he pulled out a weapon and then drove to a motel in Lemon Grove, where he forced her inside and sexually assaulted her, O’Hanlon said.
O’Hanlon said he then took the woman back to the beach area and let her go.
Both victims reported the attacks to police.
O’Hanlon wouldn’t reveal many details of the alleged attacks – including the exact locations, the name of the bar, what kind of weapon was used, and the name of Burrus’ employer – citing the severity of the case and the evidence that links the two incidents.
“These are extremely serious charges that potentially could carry a life sentence,” O’Hanlon said.

Colt MFG. Guard charged with hate crime www.privateofficer.com

Colt MFG. Guard charged with hate crime http://www.privateofficer.com

WEST HARTFORD CT Feb 4 2009 – – Police have charged a former armed security officer at Colt Manufacturing with a hate crime after confirming the company’s suspicions that the guard had scrawled swastikas on office desks and also attempted to steal a rifle and a laptop computer.
One employee had briefly resigned in fear before the suspect, Edward Moreno, was arrested in December and fired.
She later returned to work. Company officials secretly installed a surveillance camera to try to identify the vandal and thief, according to Det. Paul Roy’s warrant affidavit.
Swastikas were drawn on the desks of several minority employees at night or on the weekend and covered with papers so the graffiti could be easily discovered when the workers returned to their desks, the affidavit states.
Much of the vandalism was done in early November.Moreno, 41, of East Hartford, was charged Dec. 15 after a month-long investigation with intimidation due to bias and third-degree larceny, both felonies, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.
At a court appearance Jan. 26, Moreno applied for accelerated rehabilitation, a form of pre-trial probation. If he’s granted the program and stays out of trouble the arrest would be wiped from his record. He is due back in Superior Court in Hartford on March 9 to learn whether a judge will grant the request. In these cases, victims and others who are affected by the alleged behavior can indicate whether they agree or disagree with the request.
Colt maintains a large gun manufacturing plant at 545 New Park Avenue.
Company officials first reported incidents of vandalism to West Hartford police in August, but no suspects were identified.
In November, Moreno was caught on video tape going in and of the room that contained the computer that was later found in a maintenance closet.
Under questioning from Roy, Moreno admitted to concealing the laptop, a rifle, and several rifle parts, and also admitted that he was responsible for the racist graffiti, the affidavit states.
The detective reported that Moreno said he felt underappreciated and had stress in his home life.

Hospital guard arrested for attacking employee http://www.privateofficer.com

Chicago IL Jan 15 2009
chicagometro

A hospital security guard was charged with attacking a co-worker while wearing a mask, then “coming to her rescue” after she allegedly ignored his romantic advances Sunday in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

Donquila Butler, 29, of the 4600 block of South Prairie Avenue, was charged with felony unlawful restraint at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
Butler, who was employed as a security guard at the University of Chicago Hospitals [5841 S. Maryland Ave.], is expected to appear in Cook County Criminal Court, 2600 S. California Ave., for a bond hearing later Wednesday, police said.
On Sunday, Butler waved to a 19-year-old female co-worker whom he found romantically attractive. The woman, who works in the records department at the same hospital, ignored him as she had done numerous times in the past when he has tried to talk to her, police said. The wave brush-off enraged him and at 12:10 p.m.
Butler allegedly put on a ski mask and a hood and went to her work area. He allegedly grabbed her by the throat and said, “Shut the f— up before I kill you right here,” police said. Butler ran away when other hospital employees who were walking by saw the incident.
They called hospital security and, shortly afterward, he “responds to his own call” without the mask and hood but the woman identified him. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.

School security officer faces weapons, theft charges www.privateofficer.com

School security officer faces weapons, theft charges http://www.privateofficer.com

Jackson PA Jan 3 2009
A security officer at Seneca Valley School District’s main campus in Jackson was arrested on charges of possessing weapons at school and theft of gasoline and school supplies, police said Friday.
James White, 63, of Zelienople was charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft and receiving stolen property, according to Jackson police Chief Len Keller.
White, who was released after his arrest, will be arraigned before a district judge in Evans City at a hearing scheduled for Jan. 28.
The misdemeanor weapons charges he faces stem from the discovery of three loaded handguns and two unloaded handguns in White’s car while it was parked on school property, police said. White, who also had a knife, was charged with six counts of possession of weapons on school property.
White is employed by Victory Security Agency in Carnegie. Richard Hinch, a spokesman for Victory, said the company would not comment on the charges or White’s employment status.
White is accused of stealing gasoline in small tanks from a school maintenance garage for a year, according to court documents. He told investigators that he stole $150 in cash from the district over a year, police reported.
Victory handles school security for Seneca Valley. However, White did not work at the campus on a regular basis, said Linda Andreassi, a district spokeswoman.
“He came as needed, often for special events, but was not part of the daily security crew,” she said.
It is the first such problem with a security guard at Seneca, said Andreassi, who said White would not be permitted to work in the district again.
She said the school’s contract with the agency probably would come under review sometime after school starts next week.

A security guard and his girlfriend were arrested by Boise police Wednesday afternoon in a parking lot on State Street after the couple sold a stolen projector to an undercover officer, Boise police said.
Police set up the undercover buy of suspected stolen items and arrested Justin W. Bonner, 21, and Sierra Dawn Gearhardt, 20, who were each charged with felony grand theft.
Investigators had been working some open theft cases involving projectors that had been stolen and now say the couple had stolen at least seven projectors like the ones used to show PowerPoint presentations over the past two months, said Boise police spokesman Chuck McClure.
Six were recovered from the parking lot at 16th and State streets where the two were trying to sell them, McClure said.
Bonner had been employed as a contract security guard, which may have enabled him to steal the projectors, police said. Each projector is worth at least $500, McClure said.
Police are not saying where Bonner was employed or if anyone else is suspected to be involved but said that their investigation is continuing.
Bonner and Gearhardt were being held at the city jail pending a bond release.

NTL. ASSOC. PRIVATE OFFICERS

http://www.privateofficer.com/— Fayetteville police are investigating what has seems to be an accidental shooting that left four people shot including an off duty security guard.
FPD said that the security guard has been charged after his gun went off in a bowling alley on Tuesday but that it looks like a case of poor judgement and bad gun handling.
David Michael Thomas, 25, of 4910 Cottonwood Drive, was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
Thomas, a security guard, visited B & B Bowling Lanes, at 3003 Fort Bragg Road, late Tuesday and was trying to clear or unload his handgun when the gun went off, authorities said. Police are not sure why he was trying to do this inside the bowling alley.
The bullet hit Thomas in the hand and grazed the right arm of Rae Ann Cox, 25, authorities said. Bullet fragments then hit Robert Kusmierek, 45, in the back and Michael Dodson, 27, in the right thigh, authorities said.
Police said that all four were treated for minor wounds which were non- life threatening and that Thomas was later released pending a court date.

Security guard charged in burglary plot www.privateofficer.com

Security guard charged in burglary plot http://www.privateofficer.com

North Platte NE Nov 21 2008
The North Platte Telegraph
Three men and a female security guard at Menard’s combined to steal thousands of dollars worth of construction materials in what appears to be a robbery with inside help.
According to North Platte Police Lt. Rick Ryan, police officers responded to Menard’s Tuesday at approximately 2:45 p.m. after a store employee contacted police about a possible theft in progress.
Ryan said that store employees were provided with an anonymous tip that the robberies had been going on for some time.
“They had a description of who was doing it and they basically waited for them to show back up and when they did, they called us,” said Ryan.
Todd Warren, 41 of North Platte, Michael Leon (Sellers), 24, of Maxwell and Michael Castor, 40, of North Platte were all arrested for theft by deception, a Class 3 felony.
Lucille Johnston, 32, of North Platte was working at the store as a security guard and was also arrested for theft by deception for allegedly helping the men steal the materials by looking the other way.
Ryan said that Johnston was a security guard employed by a subcontractor and not technically a store employee and personally knew the men who are accused of stealing the materials.
She is alleged to have allowed the three men to load up a trailer full of construction materials valued at over $2,000 and allowing them to drive off the lot without paying.Police investigators believe that this activity had been going for some time and this foursome is responsible for several more thousands of dollars in lost materials.
It wasn’t until store employees received the tip before they realized that their security guard was allegedly one of the thieves.
All four were arraigned in Lincoln County Court Wednesday morning on the charges. Johnston is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Nov. 20 at 10:45 p.m.
Warren is due back in court Nov. 21 at 10:45 a.m. Leon is due back in court Nov. 20 at 11:15 a.m. and Castor will appear Nov. 20 at 10:45 a.m.
All four people face a Class 3 felony charge, which carries a possible maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine.

David Fredrick Luna, 47, of Bell was arrested Thursday on suspicion of the theft and posted bail Friday.

Officials from Dillon County and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division began investigating the arson of South of the Border, a restaurant located on Highway 301 near Interstate 95 in unincorporated Dillon County, last week.
According to officials with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office at the time, someone broke into the night deposit box, and then set the building on fire.
Dillon County investigators say that the evidence brought them straight to one suspect, a security guard who had worked at the business.
According to the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, Leo Conklin, 39, of Fairmont, NC, has been charged with arson, grand larceny, burglary, safe cracking and possession of crack cocaine. They say he committed the crimes while there on the job.
Investigators think Conklin stole money from the overnight deposit box at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 10 before burning the security building, Dillon County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Douglas Pernell said.
Conklin was arrested Friday in Dillon County, Pernell said.

They arrested him while he was getting supplies.
Police arrested Robert Leyer at the Farm and Fleet where they say he bought things to make a bomb.
Police say they learned of Leyer’s alleged bomb making plot from one of his employees at a south side security company.
The informant told police Leyer was looking to make bombs and use them to blow up the homes of gang members he claimed had made threats to some of his workers.
Police say he recruited some of his staff members to help.“We realized we had to take immediate action because of the potential threat to human life and destruction that was possible,” MPD Lt. Jason Smith said.
Investigators followed him to the American Science and Surplus Store on Oklahoma. Police say Leyer came to the supply store where he bought test tubes, masks and colored jars…devices he could use to make explosives
They say he then went to the Farm and Fleet on West Lawson and bought pipes, bleach, batteries and shot gun shells.“None of the materials are unusual. They can all be purchased at hardware store. It’s the combination of these materials that can cause problems,” Lt. Smith said.Police arrested him outside the store.
When they searched his car they found books and manuals that described in detail how to make a pipe bomb. Leyer told investigators he wasn’t really intending to carry out with his plans. Friday, one of his employees stood by him.“Whatever the charges, I think he was set up. Employees trying to get back at him bounced checks,” the co-worker said. The story gets even more bizarre.
The informant told police Leyer threatened them saying if police found out, the person would be killed and their body put through a wood chipper.

Police say that they have arrested a Gettier Security guard who works at the City/County Building in downtown Wilmington after an investigation into some missing money from an office there.
The guard has been charged with stealing money from the city solicitor’s office, police said today.

Antonio Mc Knight, 29, was arrested Wednesday after he was captured on video surveillance stealing the money, police said.
He was charged with theft under $1,000 and released on his own recognizance.
Wilmington police spokesman Master Sgt. Steven Barnes said police had gotten repeated complaints of thefts in the solicitors office.
Detectives investigating the case of the missing cash decided to set up surveillance Tuesday and set up bait to capture the thief.
Police say that it didn’t take long to snare the thief in their trap, in fact the next day, the money detectives had hidden in a desk drawer inside one of the offices was gone.
Detectives reviewed the surveillance tape to find McKnight entered the office and removed the money, Barnes said.Barnes said McKnight is the security guard for the building.
Police didn’t release the amount of money that was taken but said that the guard will get his day in court to explain his actions and hopefully get a lesson in ethics and honesty.

http://www.privateofficer.com/ — A Georgia woman was arrested and charged with shoplifting after police said she stuffed a bag of yellow rice, sliced ham, and turkey breast into a large purse.
Capt. Chris Dobbs of the Carrollton Police Department said Tammy Truitt also gave authorities a false name when questioned about the incident, which occurred last Sunday at the Food Depot in the 1000 block of Bankhead Highway.
Dobbs said the department has noticed a slight increase in shoplifting, adding it may be the result of the weak economy.
Police said Truitt was accompanied by another individual, who left the store when Truitt was detained by store employees. Authorities said the male suspect had a seizure while being questioned in the store’s parking lot and also gave them a false name.
Dobbs said the man was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released back into police custody. He was later jailed.
Authorities said the stolen food items were valued at about $20.
Both suspects were arrested and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and giving false information, police said.

www.privateofficer.com Thefts of computers, both desktop and laptops are common in most workplaces these days but office workers at Two Harbor Place, in Tampa, couldn’t figure out how a thief was sneaking past a security guard and ripping off computers. Police say that over the past few months they have taken over a dozen reports of stolen laptops and the building has security personnel on duty an officer said.
Finally, police say that they figured out the how and the who in the theft mystery. The security guard was the thief.
Detectives have arrested 33 year old Evans Moreau on grand theft charges. According to a Tampa police report, “Pawn Investigator Eli Delgado received a pawn hit on a laptop from Value Pawn.Delgado began to examine the pawn activity of Moreau and he determined that the subject had pawned over 16 times in the last month and that most of the items were computers.
Inv. Delgado then called the computer manufacturers to determine who originally purchased them. He ascertained that the listed businesses had bought the computers and that the Moreau subject had no reaon to be in possesion of the property.
Police then learned that Moreau was an evening security guard at the building where the thefts occurred and quickly made the arrest of the security guard.
Moreau was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and was being held on felony charges pending a bond release.

Police acting on a complaint from several people who were threatened at a nightclub have now charged one of the security officers working at the night club where another security guard was shot earlier this week with extortion, abduction and impersonating a police officer.
Early Monday, a security staffer at Club Mystique, in the 1500 block of General Booth Boulevard, was shot after an argument broke out.
The victim, whose identity was not released, is in critical condition. A 21-year-old man has been charged in the shooting.
On Wednesday, police said another member of the security staff at the club had been charged in an extortion scheme.
According to police, a man said he visited the club with friends on June 23 and was approached by two men working security.
Police say the customer told authorities the two men had badges, guns and radios and identified themselves as off-duty police officers.
The customer said the two men detained him, searched him and threatened him with arrest unless he paid them money, according to police. His iPod, cell phone and digital camera were missing after the search, he told police.
Police have charged Antonio Leon Smith, 32, of the 600 block of Homestead Avenue in Hampton, with extortion, two counts of abduction, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Police say they are still trying to determine whether anyone else was involved.

Nightclub security guard charged with attempted murder http://www.privateofficer.com

Wellford SC July 26 2008
A strip club security guard is charged with assault with intent to kill after police arrested him for opoening fire on a vehicle that was leaving the parking lot. Police say that he fired multiple shots into a crowded parking lot, trying to stop a customer police say, who the security guard suspected of theft but police say that person is innocent of any crime.
James Neal, the security guard, bonded out of jail yesterday, after officers say he fired his gun at The Penthouse Club in Wellford days earlier. The customer was thought to have stolen money from a dancer inside.
But because the man got in his truck and drove away from the scene, officers determined there was no immediate danger, and the use of deadly force wasn’t warranted.
If convicted, the security guard could face a lengthy prison term according to police.

http://www.privateofficer.com/ A 59-year-old man charged last week for allegedly raping a 15-year-old boy at his home had been employed as a Mifflinburg School District security guard at the time of or shortly before his arrest, authorities said today.
Barry Tomasetti, Mifflinburg school superintendent, would not say whether Jerry Dale Haines, of 201 Meadowlark Lane, resigned or was fired from the district. Tomasetti did confirm to the media on Monday that Haines no longer works for the school.
When asked about how long Haines had served as a security guard for the district, school board member Donita Keister replied: “It is not our policy to discuss personnel matters outside the board room. Please be advised that he is no longer employed by the district.”
Police investigators said that the boy said Haines had sexual contact with him in February 2006. The boy, whose name was not released, told police that Haines entered his bedroom and asked for oral sex. The boy told police Haines sexually assaulted him again later that same night.
In addition to rape, Haines has been charged with statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.
Investigators released few details of the incident or how Haines knew the boy or how he was in his house on the day in question.

Tinsley Park IL June 18 2008
A security guard from Homer Glen is in the Will County Jail, accused of sexually assaulting a young girl for whom his ex-wife baby-sat for years.
Bail was set Tuesday at $500,000 for Ronald Scalise, 47, of the 14600 block of Cricketwood Court, who’s charged with six counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. Prosecutors had sought a $1 million bail, officials said.

The alleged assaults began when the girl, now 12, was 3 years old and continued until she was 8, sheriff’s police spokesman Pat Barry said. They allegedly occurred while Scalise’s former wife was baby-sitting the girl, Barry said.
Sheriff’s detectives questioned Scalise on Monday. They had been investigating him since being alerted about the allegations a few weeks ago by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Barry said. Under questioning, Scalise made self-incriminating statements about the incidents, he said.
State’s attorney’s office spokesman Charles Pelkie said Scalise, if convicted, faces between six and 30 years in prison.
