Bentonville Ark March 3 2012 A security guard has been arrested for having sex with an underage girl from Bentonville. Police say the guard was having sex with the girl in a vacant hotel he was supposed to be keeping an eye on.
“This is definitely a case of child exploitation,” said Bentonville Police Chief Jon Simpson. Security guard Daniel Combs sits in the Benton County Jail, accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl several times.
“In this case there was a lot of planning,” said Simpson. Combs was supposed to be guarding the vacant Clarion Inn in Bentonville but instead Chief Simpson says he was using it as a meeting place for sex.
“If that was my kid it would not even go to court,” said one man. “That is horrible!
No! No! If that was! Just no! That’s horrible,” said another Bentonville resident. “I know they say let the courts handle it but I would take matters into my own hands,” said another resident.
Chief Simpson says Combs was a close friend of the girls family and was even allowed to check her out of school. “Many times it could be somebody you know. Somebody the family might have trust in or feel comfortable with,” said Simpson.
And Simpson believes this was not a one time thing. “People that committ these types of crimes work to groom potential victims. They are always on the lookout for anyone that might be a potential victim,” said Simpson.
Chief Simpson says his department is always on the lookout as well. “Putting a stop to crimes like this. You have to act fast or the crime will repeat itself,” said Simpson.
Simpson says Combs faces 4th degree sexual assault which is the lowest possible felony charge, the reason is because he was not a caretaker or an authority figure such as a teacher or officer.
