Security officer shot at Maryland nightclub www.privateofficer.com

Capital Heights MD June 2 2009
Three men posed for a picture early this morning inside a legendary Prince George’s County nightclub, the Ebony Inn. They flashed wads of fake cash, then left and got into a fight with another group in the parking lot that ended in a barrage of gunfire that wounded a security guard.
They also forgot about the picture a photographer had just taken inside.
This morning, Prince George’s police detectives began flashing around that color, digital photo — one of the clearest they say they’ve ever had of suspects in a major shooting — hoping someone will recognize one or more of the three.
And that’s only half the story of the shooting.
County police are also investigating the decision by a county police officer working security at the club — which is owned by the family of former state senator Tommie Broadwater Jr. — to fire at the suspects as they peeled out of the club’s parking lot in the 5300 block of Sheriff Road in Forestville shortly after 2 a.m.
The off-duty officer appears to have fired through the rear window of the suspects’ champagne-colored Cadillac before they eluded police on a short chase into the District.
“The officer was able to get one shot off at them,” said Officer Evan Baxter, a police spokesman. “We’re not positive that it was his shot that took out the rear windshield, but we’re pretty sure that was the chain of events.”
Police are trained to shoot when they perceive a deadly threat, and they have fired several times in Prince George’s in the past year when suspects drove at them. But police said it appeared the suspects were driving away and it was unclear whether the suspects were still firing, or how far from the scene they had driven when the officer opened fire.
Baxter said the officer, whom the department has not yet identified, was outside his vehicle “firing in response” to the security guard being hit. The security guard was struck in the leg, possibly by a stray bullet, and is expected to recover, Baxter said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the identity of the vehicle or the three men in the photograph to call Prince George’s police at 301-772-4910. Anonymous tips can also be left by calling the county’s Crime Solvers hotline at 866-411-TIPS, or by texting “PGPD” plus a message to CRIMES (274637).

Police say the shots at that game room were fired during an attempted burglary.

Apparently the guard was looking at the security video and saw three suspects trying to break in through the back door. He told the crew to get down and then he confronted the suspects.
“They were taking out the trash. He said it was three Vietnamese (suspects) who came through with ski masks on and told him to lay down. He said no and started shooting,” explained a customer who didn’t want to be identified. “They started shooting back.”
The guard was wounded in the hand. He is in good condition. It unknown if any of the suspects were wounded. All three got away.
We are told there are cameras inside and outside of the building. However police have not indicated how much of the shooting may have been recorded.
If you have any information about this crime, you’re asked to give the Harris County Sheriff’s Department a call.

East St. Louis MO. Dec 28 2008
A security guard working at the Broadway East night club on Broadway in East St. Louis was shot in the leg early Sunday morning.
According to police, the security guard was a private duty guard hired by the club. He was not armed.
East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Baxton said an officer was patrolling the area about 4:45 a.m. when he noticed an altercation in progress at the club.
“A few seconds later, he heard gunshots and saw a red Lincoln Navigator driving off the parking lot at a high rate of speed,” said Baxton. “The officer pursued the car briefly.”
Baxton said the driver drove onto the Eads Bridge and into St. Louis. The officer terminated the pursuit on the bridge and notified the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department that the vehicle was traveling into the city at a high rate of speed.
The officer returned to the club where he found the security guard had been shot in the leg, Baxton said.
The security guard was taken to a hospital for treatment for the bullet wound, which was not considered to be life-threatening.
Baxton said police were conducting interviews with potential witnesses and reviewing surveillance tape at the club to try to identify the gunman.
The shooting is the second in recent days at nightclubs in East St. Louis.
A patron was shot inside Blackmon’s VIP Lounge at 127 Collinsville Ave. on Friday. The shooter in that incident has not been apprehended. Between 300-400 people were inside of the business at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured.
“We’re going to be aggressively monitoring these nightclubs,” Baxton said. “It is our duty to make sure that the city is as safe as possible for patrons and visitors and that is what we’re working to do.”
Mayor Alvin Parks Jr. has ordered the club closed for seven days. He also said a hearing with the club owner, J. C. Blackmon, will follow a police investigation.

A security officer’s bullet proof vest may very well have saved his life Friday morning during a suspected car jacking.
Edward Martinez, 40, was driving from one job to another around 1:30 a.m., when he stopped at a red light at the intersection of Jones and Orman Avenues.
Martinez told police that’s when someone started banging on his window with the butt of a shotgun. “His life was in danger, It was definitely in jeopardy” said Sgt. Eric Bravo, with the Pueblo Police Department.
Martinez drove through the intersection, then got out of his car to confront the young suspects. “He (Martinez) said they immediately opened fire on him,” said Sgt. Bravo.
Martinez was shot twice, once in the leg and also in the chest. Luckily, he was wearing his bullet proof vest. “If he didn’t have that vest on, it could have been a lot different,” said Sgt. Bravo.
“He could have died from the wounds,” he added.
To defend himself, Martinez grabbed his 9 millimeter pistol and fired back nine times. Police say Martinez was justified because his life was in immediate danger.
“Actually I think he would have been justified in shooting once they approached his car and started banging on the window,” said Sgt. Bravo. Some of the bullets struck a nearby house, but none of the suspects were hit. They quickly got away.
“By the time we got to the window we heard the pops we saw the vehicles lights speeding away,” said Gaylen Roberts, a neighbor. But the suspects didn’t go far.
Police found nine people inside a home, located two houses from where the shooting happened. Two juveniles were arrested for attempted first degree murder.
Martinez told police he thought the suspects were trying to steal his car, but police are still investigating the motive.
Martinez was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. Police say his injuries are not life threatening.

Ntl. Assoc. Private Officers
http://www.privateofficer.com/ – Police say five people are recovering after being shot outside of a night club in North Memphis.
Police say it all started when a man was thrown out of the LD’s Lounge after getting into an argument with someone inside. LD’s Lounge is located in the 1400 block of Thomas Street. Police say the shooting happened Friday, September 19, 2008, around 2:00 a.m.
According to police, instead of leaving, the 25 year-old is accused of shooting five people outside the club.
Two officers on routine patrol heard the gunfire, drove closer to the area and found people had been shot.
A 25 year-old man was shot in the lower back. He was taken to the Med in critical condition. The security guard who police say escorted out the accused gunman initially was shot in the lower leg. He was transported by ambulance to the Med in non-critical condition.
Two other victims who were each grazed by a bullet were in good condition on the scene and refused medical treatment. Police say one man was grazed by a bullet across his back and a woman was grazed by a bullet across the neck.
Police say after the accused shooter fired off several shots, the man who was grazed by a bullet shot back at him but missed. Police say the man who fired back has a gun permit. If police decide he was shooting in self-defense, they say he will not be charged.
The accused gunman was arrested by officers after a shot chase. They caught him at Vollintine and North Watkins. Police say the accused shooter was not injured. A female passenger was also in the car and is being held for questioning.
According to police, round 4:30 a.m., a fifth victim called police to the 200 block of West Red Oak. She told police she was at the club at the time of the shooting and was shot in the ankle. Paramedics transported her to the Med in non-critical condition.

Security officer, off-duty police officer shot http://www.privateofficer.com

Jackson MS. Sept 12 2008
By:Rick McCann
Ntl. Assoc. Private Officers
http://www.privateofficer.com/
A Jackson police officer is among the victims in an overnight shooting.
Early Thursday morning, officers rushed to the scene near Pop’s Around the Corner, nightclub on South Gallatin Street. Security guard John Robinson and off-duty Jackson police officer James Dunaway were both wounded.
Witnesses said an altercation between a man, and Casie Harkins and her cousin Jennifer Roberson led to the shooting
Harkins said that when the man wouldn’t walk away from her car, she asked for help from the club’s bouncer, John Robinson, 36.
Off-duty Jackson Police Department Officer James Dunaway, 30, accompanied Robinson to the car. Dunaway, a four-year veteran assigned to Precinct 1, was at the club with his wife and had just walked over to help, police said Harkins said when Robinson and Dunaway asked the man to leave, he got into his car and started to drive off.
“He gets in his car and as soon as he gets to the road right here he opens fire — five rounds,” Harkins said. “I jumped down on the ground.”
The man shot Dunaway in the abdomen and Robinson in the leg, police said. Both men were taken to University Medical Center.
Police Chief Malcolm McMillin said the victims’ wounds did not appear to be life-threatening. Now his officers are trying to find the shooter.
“The suspect left the scene,” the chief said. “We know that he was a black male. Officers were still searching for the shooter on Thursday. They believe he was driving a tan or silver Cadillac with a Texas license plate.
He was traveling in a late-model Cadillac and proceeded north on Gallatin Street said an officer at the scene. We don’t have any other information except there was an altercation at the scene that resulted in this shooting.”
McMillin says it shows the need for a change in Jackson’s nightclubs.
“This case illustrates the need for a uniform closing time. These clubs, nothing good happens after 2:00 in the morning. This is another example of that.”
McMillin says he will speak with members of the city council to push for an ordinance that makes it illegal to drink in Jackson’s nightclubs after 2 a.m. If you have any information that could help police, call them at (601) 960-1234.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Aug 5 2008 – A 31-year-old father of four continued on Monday to fight for his life after police said someone shot him while he was working at a Northwest Jacksonville apartment complex last weekend.
Investigators said James Hayes was wounded while trying to intervene after hearing gunshots fired at the Hilltop Apartments Saturday night.
According to the police report, a group of young men were shooting at each other and Hayes tried to mediate the situation.
Police said they found Hayes lying beside a guard post, critically injured. The men involved in the fight, they said, were gone
His family members spoke out on Monday, saying they want answers.
“I just want the guy or guys ? to come up front and somebody needs to do something,” said the victim’s brother, Jason Hayes.
He said his brother’s youngest child is only 1 year old, and that his fiancee has been by his side since the shooting.
“He’s fun. He likes to tell jokes — a little silly. Over all, he’s a good guy. He don’t harm nobody. He looks after his family,” said Jason Hayes.
The family gathered together in shock, praying and trying to deal with the frightening idea that Hayes might not survive.
“It’s just terrifying right now,” said Hayes’ brother, Isaiah Jackson.
The owner of the security company for which Hayes works said Hayes was the only guard on duty at the time of the shooting. He said from now on his company wouldn’t work with any fewer than two guards at the Hilltop Apartments.
Anyone with information about who shot Hayes is asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS. In addition to the $1,000 reward from Crimestoppers, the security company is also offering $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.

http://www.privateofficer.com/ Police responded to 911 calls of an officer shot at a city apartment complex and found that a private security officer had been hit at least once by gunfire.
According to the Dallas police, officers conducted a search of the area for two men wanted in connection with the Thursday night shooting of the apartment complex security guard in far northeast Dallas.

According to investigators, the security officer had refused to let the suspects enter the Bent Tree Apartments on Forest Lane at Audelia Road around 11 p.m. for unknown reasons.

According to the security officer, a short time later, the men — driving a maroon-color sport utility vehicle returned and opened fire on the security officer, striking him and then fled the area.

The victim’s condition was not available. Police are not releasing the name of the security officer as they conduct a further investigation. Police say that the shooter could face attempted murder charges when apprehended.

Court security officer shoots self in foot www.privateofficer.com

Court security shoots self in foot http://www.privateofficer.com

MERRIMACK NH Aug 2 2008 – A Merrimack District Court security officer was shot in the foot when his holstered gun accidentally went off while on duty Thursday morning.
The male officer unintentionally discharged his Beretta .25 caliber automatic pistol, according to a police statement.
He suffered a minor foot injury and was brought to St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, the statement said.
Police are still investigating exactly how it happened, but confirmed that the officer was not drawing the weapon or engaging in enforcement activity.
Police did not identify the officer, who works for the state’s administrative office of the courts, because they hadn’t finished interviewing him, said Deputy Police Chief Mark Doyle.Police and medical personnel responded to the courthouse at about 11:40 a.m., Doyle said.
When he arrived, the man was bandaged and responsive as paramedics removed him quickly from the courthouse.
Town Hall was in lockdown mode for less than five minutes as officials determined what had happened, Town Manager Keith Hickey said.
Soon after, the police department’s criminal investigators arrived to take photos and recover the weapon, holster and a single round from the floor. They sent items to the state’s laboratory for analysis and to make sure the weapon was in proper working condition, Doyle said.
The department will continue investigating, Doyle said, because the incident involved a firearm discharged in a government building.Police “have no reason to believe it was anything other than unintentional,” he said, but, “in a government building when there’s a firearm involved, people will want a lot of answers as to what happened and why.”Police notified the county attorney’s office and the state attorney general, which is protocol, Doyle said
The officer is not a member of sheriff’s department, who are responsible for monitoring prisoners.
Security personnel generally check people’s belongings, direct people through metal detectors, transfer court paperwork and provide security presence inside and outside the courtroom.
Security officers with the state are authorized to carry weapons with proper qualifications, though the weapons are personally owned, Doyle said.

http://www.privateofficer.com/ - A security officer at Lincoln Park Pool was shot Wednesday night while working at the location, according to Syracuse police.
Omar Stroman, 34, of Bishop Avenue, was shot in the arm and shoulder.
According to witnesses, police said that at around 11:30 p.m., police were called and when officers arrived at the scene said they heard a man screaming near the pool and could see blood near the entrance.
When officers got inside, police say Stroman was floating on his back in the pool.Stroman told officers he never saw the shooter. Another employee said she heard the shot and saw Stroman running.
Police are trying to piece together what happened. Right now, it appears that there was no confrontation or any contact between Stroman and the shooter but that the shooter fired from a distance.
Police say the person who shot him may have used a shotgun or large caliber weapon.
Crime scene personnel were on the scene into the early morning hours and police say that the investigation is continuing.
The shooter faces attempted murder charges when apprehended.
The security officer is said to be in stable condition and should recover from his injuries.

One man is in jail after an early morning night club shooting.
It happened Monday, July 28, at 1:55 a.m. Beach police responded to a call for shots fired at the Club Mystique located in the 1500 block of General Booth Boulevard.
A member of the club’s security staff was shot outside of the establishment and was taken to a local hospital before police units arrived on scene.
After a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that a dispute occurred between the employee and suspect, resulting in the victim being shot.
A BOL (Be on the Lookout) was broadcast for the suspect vehicle.
The vehicle was later spotted by an officer in the 1700 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard and a traffic stop was conducted.
Detectives have charged Jontea Lamar Suggs, 21, of the 100 block of Jones Street in Chesapeake, with Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. He is being held without bond at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
The victim underwent surgery and is in critical condition.

Armored truck guard shot during robbery attempt www.privateofficer.com

Armored truck guard shot during robbery attempt http://www.privateofficer.com

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. July 23 2008

Ntl. Assoc. Private Officers
http://www.privateofficer.com/ Authorities responded to a robbery and shooting and say that an armored truck guard was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery Tuesday.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at a CVS pharmacy at 16550 NE Sixth Ave. in northeast Miami-Dade County, just hours after two men robbed a Brinks armored truck in Pompano Beach.
Police said the Garda armored truck driver saw his partner shot by two men with assault rifles while the guard was leaving the store. When the men attempted to get away in a sport utility vehicle, the armored truck driver tried to stop them.
“The driver of the armored vehicle saw what was going on,” Miami-Dade police Detective Nelda Fonticiella said. “He rammed the vehicle deliberately.”
Police said the men fled the SUV, crossed the street and escaped in a white Ford Taurus with tinted windows.
Authorities don’t believe they carjacked that vehicle but that it was another associate of the robbers who was trailing them for situations like this where they needed another avenue to escape.

Earlier in the day, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the Wachovia bank in the 400 block of East Sample Road shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Detectives said two men armed with handguns and wearing bandanas over their faces held up the Brinks guard as he was making a delivery. The thieves took several bags of cash and drove off west toward Interstate 95.
The thieves also got away with the guard’s gun, BSO spokesman Mike Jachles said.
The getaway car is described as being a silver or gray, late-model Toyota or Honda with dark-tinted windows and damage to the left front end.
BSO and the FBI were interviewing the guard and armored truck driver. They were also reviewing the bank’s surveillance video to determine if the robbers were caught on camera.

Police are not saying how much money was taken in either robbery but say both cases are under investigation. They also did not comment on the possibility of both robberies being related.
