SPOKANE WA June 18 2012– An officer shot a suspect early Sunday morning for randomly firing a pellet gun in a Spokane neighborhood.
Neighbors heard gunshots coming from behind a mini-mart on Mission near Napa. They said he was randomly firing around the area, so they called police.
Officers arrived to find the suspect, who they believed had a rifle. One of the officers fired at the suspect and hit him in the leg. He was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
No word on the suspect’s identity.
It wasn’t until after the shooting that police learned it was a pellet gun.
The officer is on administrative leave, which is protocol in these cases. The officer has not been named.
