Ventura rap concert leads to arrests, shooting, man Tasered www.privateofficer.com
Ventura CA July 28 2010 In separate incidents Sunday outside a rap concert at the Majestic Ventura Theater, a Santa Paula man was arrested on suspicion of shooting at a car and police stunned another man with a Taser after he allegedly failed to comply with orders, authorities said.
After the rap show, headlined by The Game, four men were fighting with two others on the second floor of a public parking garage on Santa Clara Street, according to a witness.
As people were trying to break up the fight, one of the men involved went to his vehicle, pulled out a gun and fired two times. He fired toward the group of people in the altercation, who had entered a black sedan and were fleeing the scene, authorities said.
Officers arrived on scene within moments of the 11:50 p.m. incident and took Gilbert Hernandez, 27, of Santa Paula, into custody, police said. The alleged shooter was shocked with a Taser by police during his arrest, checked at a local hospital, then booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of shooting at an occupied vehicle, officials said.
Police did not locate any shooting victims. Officers found a handgun in Hernandez’s vehicle, police said.
About 40 minutes before the shooting, a man attending the same concert was stunned with a Taser outside the theater, 26 S. Chestnut St., after he allegedly became combative with security officers, police said.
The incident occurred after the 29-year-old Merced resident became intoxicated and began to dance on top of some large speakers, Ventura police said in a prepared statement.
Event security staff asked the man to come down, and he cooperated with them as they led him out to the street, police said. But once in the street, the man allegedly tried to hit one of the security officers and event staff tackled him, police said in the statement.
When police arrived, they saw the man was bleeding from his forehead, and event staff turned the situation over to the officers. The man was shocked with a Taser by police after officers ordered him to stay on the ground and he started to stand up, police said. In the statement, police officials said the officers believed the situation would escalate and were concerned for their own safety.
The man was treated at Ventura County Medical Center for minor injuries from the altercation and then released. He was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of fighting and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, police said.

Nye County deputy killed in shoot-out www.privateofficer.com
Source: news 8 now — Metro Police and University Medical Center officials say the Nye County deputy shot in Pahrump on Monday has died. The officer was shot at the Terrible’s Lakeside Casino Monday afternoon.
The incident began as a domestic dispute miles away from the casino. Police say a woman reported that a man fired a gun at her. She drove to the casino to seek refuge, but he followed her. It is unclear if they were married. “She went into the casino. The suspect followed her into the casino,” Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said. “At that time, we were also having deputies respond to the domestic (situation).”
When deputies arrived, they found the woman and the suspect. The suspect then pulled out an SKS rifle and opened fire. He struck one deputy three times. One of the bullets pierced the deputy’s bulletproof vest. The other deputy shot and killed the suspect. Bullets riddled the woman’s car and blew out the tires.
Emergency crews airlifted the wounded deputy to University Medical Center. He arrived in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. He died Monday evening. The deputy was 27-years-old, and he recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. “This is his second day on the streets,” Sheriff DeMeo said.
People inside the Lakeside casino reacted to the news of the shooting. “It was just shocking that something was going on like this here,” Richard Spleen said. “It’s a tragedy on both sides,” another customer said. “People have to die to learn a lesson… There are other ways than using a gun to settle problems.”
The Nye County Sheriff’s office has not released the identity of the deputy who died.
Mall security officer shoots at shoplifter www.privateofficer.com
Tulsa Police say that a man was leaving Woodland Hills Mall after taking clothes from a store around 6:30 p.m. A security guard followed him to the parking lot as the man tried to get into an SUV and leave.
Cpt. Rick Helberg said the security guard was hanging out of the car as the suspect began to drive away. The guard reached for his gun and fired a shot that hit the truck. He eventually freed himself from the SUV. 8
The suspect hit cars in the mall lot as he left the property. But, his run would soon end.
An officer spotted the man’s vehicle near 51st and Memorial. He was taken into custody without incident.
The 42-year-old suspect was sprayed with a marking dye when he left the store he allegedly stole from. The bright orange ink was all over the man’s front, Helberg said.
He could face shoplifting and endangerment charges. Police found several garments in the back of his SUV.
The security guard suffered bumps and bruises but no serious injuries.

Police reported that a Sacramento school security officer had a close call overnight and had to run for cover as shots rang out near an elementary school campus.
The security officer who works for the school district had responded to an activated alarm call and was checking Freeport Elementary school Sunday night when he heard shots.
“I didn’t see anything being hit around me. I just ducked for cover behind my car and called for back-up and the cavalry arrived,” said SCUSD security officer Stan Jones.
Police quickly moved into the area and have taken two young men at a home across the street from the school into custody.

Armored car guard shot in robbery www.privateofficer.com
An armored car guard fired back after being shot with a Taser and a gun during a robbery this morning, possibly hitting the two suspects.
Witnesses said the robbers fired first and the guard was shot just below a knee shortly at 10:35 a.m. outside Douglas County offices in a shopping plaza at 7414 N. 30th St.
The two robbers — dressed all in brown — grabbed two money bags, witnesses said, from the Rochester armored car before fleeing in a white van, setting off a metro-wide manhunt.
One robber appeared to be clutching his abdomen as he ran to the van, one witness said.
The guard told emergency crews at the scene that he thought he shot the robbers.
The guard was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition. A police spokesman said the guard was hit by a Taser and by at least one gunshot.
Police were looking for two men and a white minivan with driver’s side damage.
Police said two employees were in the armored truck. One of them had been inside an area business and was on the way back to the truck when the robbers approached, police said. A man who was walking up to the Dollar Tree store in the Weber Place Shopping Center said he heard gunfire, then saw the guard and two other men kind of jumping back and forth, exchanging gunfire.
The man ducked down and called 911 on his cell phone. Then he saw the guard fall, grabbing his leg.
The robbers ran to the rear of the armored car and grabbed sacks of money before running toward a white van parked about 100 feet away.
After the men left the area, the witness ran to help the security guard, who pulled his gun and pointed at him.
“I’m here to help,” the witness said.
The guard was shaking and told him to call for help. The witness said he already had. The guard began to calm down, the witness said.
The man said he didn’t think the suspects appeared to be injured.
“To me, it didn’t look like (the guard) got them,” the witness said.
A woman who was leaving a Dollar Tree store said she heard five or six gunshots and saw a guard laying on the strip mall’s sidewalk.
She ran back into the store and watched as the van headed north.
Omaha-area law enforcement, including Council Bluffs police, were on the lookout for the two armed men. They have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 444-7867 (STOP), online at http://www.omahacrimestoppers.net, or by texting “OPD” and a tip to CRIMES (274637

Six dead, others wounded in NC nursing home shooting www.privateofficer.com
The gunman was also injured before he was apprehended by police after the 10 a.m. shooting at Pinelake Health and Rehab in the town of Carthage, Police Chief Chris McKenzie told several television stations. A police officer was also hurt.
“It’s a horrible event in any size town, particularly, though, when you deal with a small town such as Carthage,” McKenzie said. “It’s hard. This is my home, my small town. I was born and raised here so, yeah, I take it to heart a little bit. All you can do is move forward.”
Gretchen Kelly, spokeswoman at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in nearby Pinehurst, said six people were brought to the hospital from the nursing home. Kelly said two of the injured died at the hospital, but it wasn’t clear if those two were among the six initially reported dead by police.
Kelly said two other patients had been discharged, while two were still being treated. She wouldn’t release further details on the injuries or conditions of those hospitalized.
McKenzie said the gunman wasn’t a patient at the nursing home, located about 60 miles southwest of Raleigh, but didn’t offer any further details on what the gunman’s motive might have been.
Late Sunday afternoon, authorities appeared to be conducting a search of the nursing home’s parking lot, which they had blocked off with yellow police tape. Among the items they found was a camouflaged-colored rifle or shotgun, which was leaning against the side of a Jeep Cherokee.
The road leading to the home was filled with parked cars, both of police and relatives of those living at Pinelake. Howard McMillian, of Lakeview, said he raced to the scene as soon as he heard about the shooting. His 56-year-old sister lives at the nursing home, and McMillian said his brother had gotten a call from officials saying she was unharmed.
“I know she’s real nervous,” McMillian said. “I just want to make sure she’s OK.”
A nursing home Web site said the facility that opened in 1993 has 110 beds, including 20 for those with Alzheimer’s disease.
Calls to the nursing home by The Associated Press rang unanswered Sunday, and McKenzie and several state law enforcement agencies didn’t immediately return messages or declined to comment. Police planned a news conference for later Sunday afternoon.
Carthage is a small town of roughly 1,800 people in the North Carolina Sandhills, an area popular among retirees and home to several noted golf courses, including the famed Pinehurst resort and its No. 2 course that regularly hosts the U.S. Open.
Pinelake Health and Rehab was last inspected in May, and the review resulted in an overall five-star — or “much above average” — rating from federal Medicaid officials.
Security officer finds shooting victim www.privateofficer.com
Police say that a security officer has found a Montgomery man who was shot to death inside his car next to the Rose Supper Club late Thursday night.
Police responded to a call at about midnight about gunshots in the area, said Capt. Keith Barnett, a police spokesman.
A security guard for the Rose Supper Club heard the shots and saw a car that had collided with a parked car on Sharp Street near Highland Avenue next to the business, Barnett said. The security officer went to assist the driver and found that he had been shot.
Police officers arrived and found Marquette Collins, 27, in the driver seat of the Chevrolet Caprice that collided with the parked car. Collins had a gunshot to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene, Barnett said.
There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing, Barnett said.
It is the city’s ninth homicide of the year.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Montgomery Police Department at 241-2651 or the Secret Witness line at 262-4000.

Another Memphis security officer involved in shooting http://www.privateofficer.com
Police say the homicide happened Sunday, March 15, 2009 in the 900 block of Gaithers Park Lane around 8:00 p.m. The shooting happened at a complex called Fowlers Homes.
Investigators continue to look for the man that they say pulled the trigger. According to police this all started when people in a downstairs apartment were blasting their music and the people in the upstairs apartment didn’t like it. Police say in retaliation, the people in the upstairs apartment started to blast their music as well. After that, a verbal argument turned into a physical fight outside in the parking lot.
Investigators believe that guns weren’t involved until a woman told a man who was fighting, “He’s too big for you, go get your gun.” According to police, he got his gun and shot and killed the 46 year-old man that he was fighting with. The man was shot in the chest and died on the way to the hospital.
Police tell myEyewitnessNews.com that the accused shooter tried to fire his gun at someone else as well, but his gun didn’t go off. As all of this was happening, an off duty security guard that was armed started shooting at the accused gunman. Investigators say the accused shooter ran off when the security guard started shooting. They do not believe he was hit by the security guard’s gunfire.
Police say the security guard that shot at the accused gunman was not working at the time. They believe he lives at the complex and just happened to be armed.
Investigators say they know the accused shooter’s name.

The shooting happened at The Standard Food and Spirits on the 300 block of Memorial Drive early Wednesday morning.
Police said 27-year-old John Henderson was shot several times, even after he complied with the demands of the criminals.
VIDEO: Atlanta Restaurant Worker Fatally Shot During Robbery
Atlanta police said it was just after 4 a.m. when two employees closing down The Standard heard the crashing sound of four young men breaking in.
“One of the victims was taken back to the business office where an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. He was shot twice in the head and twice in both legs,” said Lt. Keith Meadows with the Atlanta Police Department.
Police said a female worker was able to hide in a cabinet when the robbers weren’t watching.
Chris Johnson, owner of the Standard, told WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News that Henderson was hit nine times.
Henderson later died at Grady Memorial Hospital. His friends and co-workers could be seen hugging soon after the crime, trying to console each other.
A sign on the door of the restaurant Wednesday said it was closed for the day. Patrons who stopped by said they were shocked by what happened.
SLIDESHOW: Scene Of Restaurant Shooting
“What I heard is that they gave the people what they wanted and they still shot him,” said patron Aaron Hall. “So I pray for the man who was shot and his family and I pray for the people who worked here. But more importantly, I pray for the people who did this because there’s something in their heart that doesn’t have (the knowledge) that we should love one another.”
No additional information on the suspects has been released. The other employee was not injured.
Police continue to investigate.

Cajacker shot and killed by police http://www.privateofficer.com
Henry County police and Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the incident began early Thursday morning when a man took a motorcycle at gunpoint from a Wal-Mart. Police said the suspect fired a shot during the robbery.
“The suspect actually took a motorcycle from an individual there,” said Cpt. Jason Bolton with the Henry County Police Department.
Police were called and said the suspect tried to ambush them after he crashed the stolen motorcycle. Police said the suspect ran into some nearby woods off Highway 42 in Stockbridge.
“I saw the helicopter and then I saw the police presence with guns drawn out over their cars pointed towards the wood line. It looked like something out of a movie,” said witness Laron Hill.
Shortly after Hill drove by the scene, he heard gunfire, he said. “It was rapid gunfire. It sounded like probably 50 shots and you could see flashes in the rearview mirror,” said Hill.
Several Henry County police officers shot and killed the robbery suspect.
“Multiple shots were fired at the officers by the suspect. Ultimately, officers did return fire. The suspect was struck and was killed,” said Bolton.
Henry County police shut down Highway 42 near North Henry Boulevard and called in the GBI to handle the investigation.
The suspect’s name has not been released.

Police shoot disgruntled employee at VA. mall http://www.privateofficer.com
Fairfax police shot and wounded an armed man outside Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant at Tysons Galleria yesterday, police and witnesses said, but many details remained unclear last night.
At 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disorderly man on an upper-level parking deck and confronted him, said Officer Shelley Broderick, a police spokeswoman. The man failed to follow the officers’ commands and made a movement toward a gun in his waistband, she said.
An officer fired once, striking the man in the lower body, she said. The man, whom police declined to identify, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, they said.
Employees in the mall, including a manager at a business adjacent to the restaurant, said the gunman was a disgruntled former employee of Maggiano’s. The parking garage where the shooting took place is close to the restaurant.
Broderick declined to say whether the incident had any connection to the restaurant, but a police official said initial police radio communications indicated that the man was a former Maggiano’s employee. Police emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, as is an internal probe because the incident involved an officer firing a weapon. Officers were seeking to talk to the gunman at the hospital.
Julie Czizek, human resources manager at Maggiano’s, declined to comment and referred reporters to a toll-free public-affairs telephone number.
A recorded message said no one was available to comment.
Shoppers at the mall expressed shock at the incident and attributed it to tension caused by the declining economy.
“It’s exactly like the movies. It’s extremely sad,” said Eskil Amdal, a Lexington Park man who had dinner at Maggiano’s yesterday with his wife and child.
Amdal, 35, said he saw 10 police cars when he arrived at the mall and asked waiters what was happening.
They referred him to police.

Two dead in medical clinic shooting www.privateofficer.com
Two dead in medical clinic shooting http://www.privateofficer.com
This comes just a few months after the death of a hospital security officer here in Springfield. Cox North Security Officer Monty Ruby died in August after being kicked in the head by a patient who was in police custody.
Now, a facility in the St. John’s system, in O’Fallon, Mo., has lost one of its employees to Friday’s violence. Hospital staff here in Springfield know anything can happen, and they’re doing their best to be prepared.
“To happen in a medical facility is really close to us, and we worry about it. What happened there is very sad,” said Dwayne Doran, St. John’s Director of Safety and Security in Springfield.
Friday’s deadly standoff at a sister hospital’s clinic is a shock for St. John’s employees in Springfield, and puts security in the front of many minds. All employees have training to help them de-escalate a situation, but more may be coming.
“Occasionally, we’ll have certain departments go through additional workplace violence training, if there’s been something that worries them, something like this big event might preempt some of them so say, hey we’d like a little more training there, so we do. We step up the training and education,” said Doran.
And as St. Johns recently removed electric stun guns to protect patient rights, they’ve stepped up many other security features in the past few months, adding more cameras to watch out for trouble, card access systems to let employees in and keep others out, panic buttons in hidden locations to call for help, and more security officers.
“We are trying to make more of a security presence as this town grows, and these kind of events happen, to make people feel more secure, so we have roughly 32 officers within the security department,” said Doran.
Just as employees in O’Fallon rushed patients to secure rooms when the incident began, staff here in Springfield are also ready to act quickly.
“We’ve really increased our security by having lockdown units, by having training for avenues of escape,” Doran said.
Doran and staff at other hospitals in Springfield know violence is rising at hospitals nationwide. And they’re doing their best to be prepared.
“We are doing things different than we did four or five years ago,” said Doran.
Both St. John’s and CoxHealth say they use communication as a way to de-escalate violent situations. All CoxHealth employees also go through a conflict resolution course, with re-certification necessary every other year, and they have a program specifically for family members of patients who need someone to talk to.

University police said Timothy A. Stone got into a fight with the other man in a female student’s room in James P. Callahan Residence Hall early Wednesday morning. The Kentucky Enquirer reports that the other man, Jody Wright, an ex-boyfriend of the student, was not hurt.
Witnesses told police that Stone, of Cincinnati, pulled a .25-caliber pistol out during the struggle and fired. The bullet went out a window. “He held it to the victim’s head and we believe attempted to use it,” University Police Chief Harold Todd said.
Todd said Wright wrested the gun from Stone, and then the two men, who were not students, and the female fled. Todd says Wright threw the gun in the Ohio River.
A student called 911 after hearing a gunshot. Officers searched the dorm, viewed surveillance tapes and interviewed witnesses soon after the call, Todd said.
The university said in a statement that campus police “sought the most serious charges possible under the circumstances.” Stone was also charged with first-degree wanton endangerment. The female student, who was not identified by police, is facing school disciplinary charges.
Stone was arrested by Cincinnati police on Wednesday and has been lodged in the Hamilton County Jail in Cincinnati on a $500,000 bond.

A Jackson police officer is among the victims in an overnight shooting.
Early Thursday morning, officers rushed to the scene near Pop’s Around the Corner, nightclub on South Gallatin Street. Security guard John Robinson and off-duty Jackson police officer James Dunaway were both wounded.
Witnesses said an altercation between a man, and Casie Harkins and her cousin Jennifer Roberson led to the shooting
Harkins said that when the man wouldn’t walk away from her car, she asked for help from the club’s bouncer, John Robinson, 36.
Off-duty Jackson Police Department Officer James Dunaway, 30, accompanied Robinson to the car. Dunaway, a four-year veteran assigned to Precinct 1, was at the club with his wife and had just walked over to help, police said Harkins said when Robinson and Dunaway asked the man to leave, he got into his car and started to drive off.
“He gets in his car and as soon as he gets to the road right here he opens fire — five rounds,” Harkins said. “I jumped down on the ground.”
The man shot Dunaway in the abdomen and Robinson in the leg, police said. Both men were taken to University Medical Center.
Police Chief Malcolm McMillin said the victims’ wounds did not appear to be life-threatening. Now his officers are trying to find the shooter.
“The suspect left the scene,” the chief said. “We know that he was a black male. Officers were still searching for the shooter on Thursday. They believe he was driving a tan or silver Cadillac with a Texas license plate.
He was traveling in a late-model Cadillac and proceeded north on Gallatin Street said an officer at the scene. We don’t have any other information except there was an altercation at the scene that resulted in this shooting.”
McMillin says it shows the need for a change in Jackson’s nightclubs.
“This case illustrates the need for a uniform closing time. These clubs, nothing good happens after 2:00 in the morning. This is another example of that.”
McMillin says he will speak with members of the city council to push for an ordinance that makes it illegal to drink in Jackson’s nightclubs after 2 a.m. If you have any information that could help police, call them at (601) 960-1234.

A shooting at a Prince George’s County apartment complex over the week-end ivolving a police or security officer as first reported by PrivateOfficer.com on Sunday was cleared up today by police.
Police said the officer, Steven Jackson, tried to arrest Manuel de Jesus Espina, 43, of the 8000 block of 14th Avenue in Langley Park for an alleged alcohol violation in the stairwell of the apartment building. Espina resisted, even after Jackson used his pepper spray and baton, according to police.
They said Espina and another resident of the complex, Manuel de Jesus Espina Jacome, 26, tried to get the officer’s baton. Jackson feared for his life and shot Espina in the torso, police said.
Police said that they are still conducting their investigation and looking for any witnesses to the shooting.

Shoplifter finds security officer’s home, shoots at car http://www.privateofficer.com
The damage came from a bullet that passed through the windshield, out the passenger side window, through the fence and almost into the home of the security agent.
Police alleged the shooting was the work of Ernesto Pavia, 26.
“I have no clue who this guy is,” “I just came to my car, and the window was busted out,” Leroy Saiz, the guard’s father, told reporters.
However his son said he does know who the guy is and why he was there.
On Tuesday night during the 90-minute blackout that hit much of Albuquerque, Joshua Saiz was working as a security officer at a shopping center. There he confronted a man coming out of the Wal-Mart supermarket with a small child in one arm and a gallon of milk believed to be stolen in the other.
Police identified Pavia as the shoplifting suspect. Pavia warned Saiz, “I know where you live,” according to a search warrant affidavit.
Albuquerque Police Department Detective Ken Scrivner said it appears Pavia’s alleged warning was no idle threat.
“It’s unique for us,” Scrivner said.
According to police, on the night of the confrontation at the shopping center, Pavia showed up at the Saiz family’s home and fired off one round.
Members of the Saiz family got a good description of what turned out to be Pavia’s car. Police tracked him down pretty quickly.
“I have several more witnesses that were identified today that I have yet to interview,” Scrivner, who works out of APD’s Southwest Command, said. “Hopefully they’re going to shed some more light on what happened previous to the shooting.”
The search warrant affidavit reported officers found a TEC-9, a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, inside Pavia’s car.
Saiz said he had no idea how the shooter knew where his son lived.
They still have questions, but the Saiz family is relieved no one was hurt. Saiz said the family is now taking precautions to make sure they’re safe.
Pavia is charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, and shooting from a motor vehicle.
Police said he has been arrested before but for nonviolent offenses.

Scott White. Witnesses told police that Clemons and another man got into an argument outside the club, at 5 E. 400 South. Clemons allegedly then shot the man in the abdomen with an assault rifle, White said. Clemons drove away with Crist, as the victim lay bleeding in the street.
The shooting isn’t Clemons first run-in with the law. He was arrested for the November 2007 shooting of a 23-year-old man during a home invasion in Trenton, N.J., Lt. Beth Woodward, chief of public affairs for the 388th Fighter Wing at Hill, confirmed. He was charged with attempted murder in connection with that incident, but details weren’t available late Saturday on what happened with that case or how Clemons came to Utah afterward.
Woodward said the Air Force took administrative against Clemons because of the New Jersey incident, but declined to discuss those actions. After Saturday’s shooting, police followed Clemons and Crist along 400 South and onto Interstate 15, heading north, White said.
Two off-duty police officers working security at the Crystal Inn, 230 W. 500 South, observed Clemons’ vehicle and joined the pursuit, White said. During the chase, Crist allegedly pulled the vehicle over to allow Clemons to jump out and flee on foot. Police caught up with Clemons at a gravel yard at 725 W. 200 South, where the teenager was found hiding behind machinery, White said.
Lemuel and Williams were waiting at the gravel yard, where Clemons and Crist had apparently arranged to meet them to escape, White said.
All four airmen were booked into the Salt Lake County jail. It’s unclear why the two men were arguing before the shooting, police said. Clemons and the victim were acquaintances, said Salt Lake City police Lt. Brian Purvis. A robbery may have been part of the incident, but police weren’t releasing details. Clemons, however, was booked on suspicion of aggravated robbery with a rifle, along with other charges. The weapon used in the attack was not military-issued. The victim was taken to University Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. An updated condition report was not available Saturday evening. Woodward confirmed the four airmen are stationed at Hill Air Force Base.

A security officer shot a disgruntled former employee of a North Side strip club three times this morning after Columbus police say the woman drove her sport utility vehicle into several parked cars and a co-worker.
Ashley Hildreth, 23, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence after the 2:20 a.m. incident in the parking lot of The X Gentleman’s Club at 6225 Sunderland Dr.
The security officer is also a part-time police officer in Kirkersville in Licking County. His name was not released. The co-worker was treated for bumps and bruises.
Police gave this account:
Hildreth had been fired from the nightclub several weeks ago and returned Thursday night to try to get her job back. Managers agreed to give her another shot.
After several hours, she began arguing with co-workers, and managers fired her again and escorted her out of the club.
The security guard and a male employee watched Hildreth get into her SUV. She drove into two vehicles and then drove directly at them.
She ran over a curb and into a flower bed, striking and knocking down the co-worker. Hildreth then backed up, hit another car and moved forward. At that point, the security officer fired his gun at the SUV.
Police are investigating whether Hildreth was driving directly at the security officer when the shots were fired; bullet holes could be seen in the side of her SUV.
She was struck three times — in the buttocks, the thigh and heel — and circled the parking lot, crashing into two more cars before stopping, police said.
She was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital and is expected to recover.
Police said Hildreth’s blood-alcohol level was 0.172 percent, more than twice the limit at which a motorist is presumed drunk in Ohio.
Police say that the investigation is continuing and depending on their determination, criminal charges could be brought against the security officer for shooting a person when his life was not in danger.

“The security guard came to the door as he exited his truck. They were in a foot or so of each other apparently. He was shot at point blank range. There was one shot to the chest and another one to the eye,” said Police Chief Larry Blagg.
Police say Pennington shot Cooper twice. Cooper was shot once in the chest and once in the head. Police say Pennington then got back into his truck and drove himself to the Trumann Police Department and turned himself in to police.
Trumann Police Chief Larry Blagg told Region 8 News that Cooper was pronounced dead just before 5:00 a.m. Police are still investigating this crime and although they don’t know the motive at this time, Blagg said it seems to be very deliberate.
“I don’t think it’s a random act that he just came out and found somebody to shoot,” said Blagg.
Another security guard who works with the security company Securitas told Region 8 news that Cooper had worked there for about a year. Police Chief Blagg said that the suspect had moved to Trumann working for Columbia Forrest Products for about a year. Blagg said that Pennington is a member of upper management for the company working as an engineer.
Blagg said according to Pennington’s boss, he never caused any problems. This shooting is a shock to the company as well as the suspect’s family.
At his probable cause hearing Monday afternoon Pennington was officially charged with one count of Capital Murder and no bond was set. Pennington will be held at the Poinsett County Jail. His next day in court will be on June 23rd.

A woman who walked into a health services building with a weapon at the University of Louisville was disarmed by University Police and set off a chain of events on Thursday.
School spokeswoman Cindy Hess says university police arrived seven minutes after receiving a call and found a hostage situation. Hess says she doesn’t know how many people were taken hostage, but there were no injuries.
Hess says the woman was disarmed shortly after police arrived.
An initial posting on the school’s Web site described the person as a student, but Hess said she couldn’t confirm that.
The university sent safety alerts to student phones, cell phones and posted one on its Web site. Hess says the campus was not locked down.
But now the mother of two finds herself facing even more serious charges as police say that she is suspected of killing her own children.
Louisville Police say that Gail L. Coontz, 37 shot her two children while they slept and then went to the University of Louisville with the gun and took people hostage.
Neighbors said they’re more accustomed to seeing kids playing in the street than they are crime scene investigators pounding the pavement.
“When I seen them putting the tape up, my heart kind of sank,” said neighbor Sheryl Hayden.
Hayden said that when she saw the police outside 4709 Settle Boulevard, she knew something was terribly wrong inside her next door neighbor’s home.
Metro Police say that officers arrived about 9:20 a.m. after campus police called LPD to make a welfare check on two children living there.
University police said that Coontz had walked into a building seeking a counselor Thursday and held someone hostage and made a remark about her children’s well-being.
“Officers did make entry when they arrived and unfortunately, discovered the bodies of two children who had been the victims of multiple gunshot wounds,” said Metro Police Detective Phil Russell.
“It makes me sick,” said Patty Schneider, who was good friends with the family. “The kids were good kids. I have teenagers like her son. It’s just hard.”
She said Coontz was a widower with two children — a boy and a girl. She had recently gone back to school to get her degree.

BREAKING NEWS……..Brink’s officer shot during robbery by; Rick McCann www.privateofficer.com
Douglasville GA. Nov. 26, 2007
Brink’s armored guard and a suspect were injured in a shooting Monday inside the Arbor Place mall in Douglasville.
Mall general manager Bill Ball said a Brink’s armored car guard was wounded in the shooting, which occurred about 11:45 a.m. at an upper level entrance near the food court.
The guard was taken to a local hospital with injuries that Ball said did not appear to be life-threatening.
A suspect was also wounded in the gunfire, and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital said Ball, who did not know the severity of that man’s wounds.
Ball said no shoppers or mall employees were wounded.
“Fortunately, it being a Monday morning after a major weekend, and [the mall] was not as crowded as it could have been,” Ball said.
The mall, which is just off I-20 about 20 miles west of downtown Atlanta, was locked down, with no one allowed to enter or leave the mall. The mall was reopened at 1:30 p.m., Ball said.
The shooting happened just outside the Johnny Rockets restaurant, according to one witness. Leigh Knight of Carrollton had just sat down at the restaurant with a friend and three children when she heard the shots. “It was a lot of shots, like nine,” she said. “after about the fourth one, we figured out what it was and we threw the kids under the table and we laid down on top of them.”
When she saw security run toward the shooting, she got up and left the area. “I saw a Brink’s man laying face up — he was conscious. There was another man next to him laying face down,” Knight said.
She fled to the Sports Stop store and stayed there while the mall was locked down. Sports Stop owner Paul Limbaugh said SWAT teams were roaming the mall with their guns drawn.
All schools in the county were placed on a “code yellow” alert, said Zack Spencer, director of security for Douglas County schools.
Spencer described code yellow as a “higher sense of alert,” in which all exterior doors were secured and any students outside of the buildings were brought inside.

Store security agent killed during shoplifting www.privateofficer.com
Store security shot, killed during shoplifting www.privateofficer.com
Chicago IL. Nov,24 2007
The start of the busy holiday shopping season turned violent at a tiny, tidy clothing store on Chicago’s Southwest Side on Friday afternoon when a security guard was shot and killed.
Just before 1 p.m., a trio of thieves walked in to Get M Girlz at 2547 W. 63rd, announced a robbery, and started to unload racks of clothing.
One of the robbers began struggling with the store’s security guard, and in a matter of seconds, the guard had been shot several times in the chest, according to Chicago Police.
As the thieves bolted from the business, Harold D. Long Jr., 22, of the 800 block of North Sacramento, lay dying.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Long’s family said he had worked at the store for about 1½ years and was going to school in hopes of one day opening his own business.
“He was very dedicated to his job,” said his sister, Shauntamika Friley, 25, adding that her brother had planned to start his own security service.
Friley said her brother, who she thought was supposed to be off Friday, was a generous and loving uncle. “He was the type of person when he loved you, he really loved you,” Friley said.
A second person in the store, a female sales clerk, was uninjured in the holdup.
“There are witnesses,” said Chicago Lawn District police Cmdr. Leo Schmitz. Police said they’ve received some helpful leads.
One shopkeeper in the area said the clothing store had been targeted by robbers before. Police said store owners need to be especially careful during this season.
“This is the time of year where if you’re selling a lot, these bad guys know you’ve got a lot,” Schmitz said.
Harvey Hobson, who owns the What’s Poppin’ popcorn and candy store across the street, said he’s concerned about his own shop. He said he thinks the clothing store had been robbed at least two other times and that thieves tried to hold up a nearby dry cleaners in recent weeks but left after learning cash receipts had been deposited.
The slain security guard “was a nice young man,” Hobson said. “I hated to hear that happened to him — he was just a real good guy.”

Police candidate killed during fight www.privateofficer.com
Police candidate killed in fight http://www.privateofficer.com

NEWARK, N.J. Nov. 14, 2007— A 20-year-old Newark police candidate died late Friday of gunshot wounds suffered during a scuffle with a teenager two days earlier at a home in Lyndhurst.
Jose Hall, the son of a Newark police officer, died at Hackensack University Medical Center where he had spent two days in the intensive care unit.
His accused assailant, a 17-year-old Newark boy, was initially charged as a juvenile with attempted murder. Those charges will likely be upgraded to murder on Tuesday, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said.
Authorities said Hall was at the home on Second Avenue visiting a friend. At some point, he and the 17-year-old, who was dating the daughter of the homeowner, got into an argument. A scuffle ensued and Hall was shot twice at about 12:20 a.m., Molinelli said.
The teen fled but Newark police arrested him later Wednesday at a friend’s home on Cary Street in Orange, Molinelli said. He is being held at the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center in Paramus.
A gun, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered during a search of the Orange home, Molinelli said.
Hall, a graduated of Barringer High School in Newark, had considered joining the military or the National Guard but decided to follow in his father’s footsteps, friends said.
Joining the Newark Police Department had been a lifelong ambition for Hall’s father, Jose Sosa, 39, and the experience clearly influenced his son, according to a Dec. 20, 1996, article in The Star-Ledger that quoted father and son during Sosa’s graduation from the Newark Police Academy.
Hall, then 10, beamed with pride as Sosa graduated and described to a reporter the rigors of his father’s police academy experience.
“My dad said they make you run in class and exercise,” he said. “He said they teach him stuff about police, and he showed us the books they gave him, and he even told us stories from the books.”
Hall recently passed the Newark Police Department’s written test and scored well enough to be considered a candidate for the academy but had not yet taken his physical exam and other required tests, police sources said.
The physical exam probably would not have posed any problems for Hall, whom friends described as a physically strong weightlifter.
Hall was well-liked, respectful and always welcome, said Dean Lowenstein, who owns the home where the shooting occurred.
“If he could do anything to help anybody, he would do it,” Lowenstein said.
Hall also was known for his humor.
“He always kept you laughing, he always had stories to tell,” said his friend, Robert Brown, 37, of Newark. “He was a good all-around kid.”
In addition to his father, Hall is survived by two brothers.
