Avondale Police searching for man who shot girlfriend at Westview High School www.privateofficer.com

AVONDALE, Ariz. May 27 2012 - Avondale Police say a man shot his longtime girlfriend in the parking lot of Westview High School and is still at large.

Friday afternoon, 33-year-old Takesha Barnes was attending an 8th grade promotion ceremony held at the school located near 107th Ave and Indian School Road in Avondale.

Suspect Thomas Lamont Moton allegedly pulled up to her car, parked in the northeast parking lot, and shot her in the stomach multiple times just before 2 p.m. Family members and a security guard were with her and saw the shooting.

The victim was flown to the hospital in extremely critical condition, where she later died.

Moton then fled the scene, possibly on a 250cc Kawasaki Ninja Motorcycle, Avondale Police say.

Participants at the ceremony were locked down to ensure their safety. The victim’s daughter was in 8th grade and was a part of the ceremony.

“They pulled one of the girls from the front row,” says student witness Mackenzie Kay. “They all went outside, I guess her mom was shot… it’s really crazy for someone to walk on the campus and shoot someone.”

Police say there is a history of domestic violence between Barnes and Moton and that they have children together.

Officers are actively searching for 38-year-old Moton, last seen wearing a black and red motorcycle jacket. He is considered armed and dangerous.

The Avondale Police is being assisted by the Phoenix Police Department as well as the U.S. Marshals.
