An investigation by the University of Georgia police has led to another employee of the Montgomery County Cooperative Extension Service being charged with stealing money from the office.
Amanda Chambers, who is a 4-H and youth worker in the South Georgia county, is charged with five felony counts of theft for writing five checks totaling $5,422.94 on a 4-H livestock account, said Lt. Lisa Boone of the UGA Police Department.
A UGA police investigator was notified of the incidents and after conducting an internal investigation swore out five felony warrants for the thefts, which police say occurred between January and March.
Chambers is the second extension worker this year charged with theft. In March, UGA police charged Doris Faye Beck of Cleveland, a secretary in the Hall County Cooperative Extension office, with taking more than $50,000 over a two-year period.
