Alabama plane crash leaves Crump family dead www.privateofficer.com
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. June 29 2008 A plane went down and crashed just after take-off from the Walker County airport on Sunday morning, killing Jasper car dealer Bobby Crump, his wife, son and a fourth passenger.
Walker County Sheriff John Mark Tirey confirmed that the plane crashed shortly after take-off from the airport. The family reportedly was bound for Gulf Shores on the Alabama coast when the plane went down about 7:55 a.m. in a wooded area not far from the airport.
The victims are identified as Bobby Crump, Jan Crump, and Matthew Crump, a student at the University of Alabama. The name of a fourth passenger, a woman who was a family friend, was not immediately released.
According to Federal Aviation Administration records, the airplane was a four-seat, twin-engine Beechcraft BE-55, registered to Crump Nissan Inc. in Jasper. FAA records show Bobby Crump has a pilot’s license.
The authorities are not releasing further details of the crash but did say that the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board have sent investigators to the scene.
Crump owned an auto dealership, but sold it several years ago according to public records.
