When you’re an employer, you’re always looking to hire good, honest employees. Someone that can be trusted to do a good days work and to not steal from you.
When a new hire by the name of Trust came to work at a local store they thought surely, he must be honest.
But, Donald Trust apparently didn’t live up to his name.
Police said that the 51-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested last night, after his boss at a White Plains eyeglass store decided to play detective and conducted his own sting operation to determine if Mr. Trust was in fact, not trustworthy and he proved to police that Trust stole money from the cash register.
The owner of Metro Vision, 245 Main St., told police he suspected that one of his employees was stealing. He said a female employee told him she thought she saw Trust take money from the register, but couldn’t prove it.
Not wanting to tip his hand to his employee, and with no evidence to give to the police for an arrest, the owner decided to try something that would help prove or disprove that trust had been broken. So, the owner put a sting in place and photocopied three $20 bills and put the real bills in the register about noon yesterday.
By 3:30 p.m., he said, the bills were gone. At that point, he summoned police and they went to the store and asked both employees to come to Public Safety headquarters “to get to the bottom of whatever was going on,” according to a police report.
Once there, cops asked Trust if he had any cash and he produced three $20 bills and $1 bills. Police said the $20s matched the owner’s photocopies.
At that point, police said, Trust admitted he took the bills from the register.
He has been charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor.
Bail and court information was not available.
It just goes to show you, sometimes you just can’t judge a person by their name.

Mall Guard, Store Workers Arrested In Theft www.privateofficer.com

WHITE PLAINS N.Y. Nov. 1, 2007 – A security officer from The Westchester mall and employees from two mall stores were arrested on multiple felony charges Tuesday, accused of using stolen credit cards to buy gift cards.
Otis Jackson, 24, of 4 Windsor Terrace, White Plains; Gerald Joseph, 23, of 168 N. Lawn Ave., Elmsford; and Anthony Jesus Perez, 26, of the Bronx were picked up at the 125 Westchester Ave. mall Tuesday afternoon. All are charged with felony counts of second-degree forgery, third-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. They’re also all charged with fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor.
Detective Lt. Eric Fischer said Jackson, a mall security guard, is accused of bringing stolen credit cards to the Foot Locker store, where Joseph works, and Lady Foot Locker, where Perez works. Joseph and Perez, who police say knew the cards were stolen, put them through to purchase a total of $3,900 worth of gift cards Oct. 25, authorities said. The scheme was discovered by one of the store managers.
Bail and court information was not available.
