Woman returns $1200 of make-up to store in theft attempt www.privateofficer.com
LOUISVILLE, Ky. Feb 22 2011 – There are many subtle clues that can tip store security off to potential shoplifters — but police say that a woman’s actions on Sunday night were anything but subtle.
According to an arrest report, 21-year-old Nekiya Crawford showed up at the Wal-Mart in the 11000 block of Standiford Plaza Drive Sunday night and tried to return $1,242 worth of makeup.
Police say that store security allowed the return to take place, but flagged the return as a suspicious act and began to follow Crawford around the store. When they witnessed her hiding numerous items of merchandise in her purse, they confronted her about it.
Crawford began fighting with store security, according to the arrest report. Even when a police officer arrived, she “continued lunging towards loss prevention officers in a threatening manner.” Police say she was taken to a security room, and was screaming obscenities so loudly that she could be heard outside the office.
As she was walked out of the store and to the police car, she was yelling profanity as customers were passed by.
Police say she told them she would be released on her own recognizance and would never go to court.
